Newb making grow box

I decided it would be more cost efficient to grow my marijuana instead of buying it, so I am in the process of making a grow box. What I really need to know is what components does it need. I already have: A nice big cabinet set aside, a couple of light-bulbs that project sunlight, and a couple compact computer fans. What else will I need? Also I read about some people painting the inside of their grow boxes white? Any help would be greatly appreciated

yep, a flat white paint is great for reflection. maybe get a bit of mildicide mixed in for mold/mildew prevention.

got any idea of what kind of yields you're looking for?

Thanks. And I have no idea, I just want to try and get the most out of my first grow. The cabinet is 22.5"x14"x16". I had planed on installing a fan in the bottom corner on the left side, sucking air in, and a fan at the top corner on right side, for blowing the air out. I also now plan to take your advice on the paint. Then I would run the light bulb and its wires through a drawer above the cabinet that will contain my plants. That just made me think of another question. Where can I pick up light socket(or whatever they're called) that would work for this?

home depot, clamp shop lights.

they're about $7 a piece, you'll probably have to remove the metal hood in the space you have. you can put a 'y connector' on the end and hang two CFLs instead of one, although you might have to rig them up horizontally as you have limited vertical space.

one plant under (x4) 23 watt CFLs might be able to net you a half ounce out of that space.*

get a thermometer while you're at it. a space that small with any amount of light will get hot, and quickly.

So is this all I'll need? So far I plan on picking up some: water ph tests, white paint, clamp lights, mildicide. And like I said earlier I already have the cabinet, lights, and computer fans. Also can I switch it back and forth between my growbox and a place lit with actual light?

they should have flat white paint with mildicide already mixed together, no need to buy them separate.

you may need an adapter for the computer fans.*

what kind of lights are they? what kind of style, wattage, and range?

yes, you can switch back and forth between natural light and your grow box.

Sounds like your pretty much set.

These are good bulbs to start with and will work with the fixture they sell as well http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?productId=203252142&storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&MERCH=REC-_-NavPLPHorizontal1-1-_-NA-_-203252142-_-N#.UQN6vfLkJxA

If you think you're going to be battling heat use the 23w bulbs instead otherwise the 42w is better option. Also if you haven't already, consider getting a clip on oscillating fan to constantly move air and help strengthen your branches in veg. I use this one in for my clones/seedlings and it works really well.

And last get yourself a temp/humidity gauge. I use this one in my clone/seed area and again it works really well and its pretty affordable. It also logs high/low temps and humidity so you can keep a eye on things over night.

Good luck with everything :weed:

After a bit of research, I learned that the lightbulbs I had wouldn't work. So I think I'm going to get two of the CFL lights and the temp. guage that ISmokealottaweed suggested. And I'll check to see if the fans need an adapter. I already own an oscillating fan, so that's taken care of. If you guys have any advice you think a first time grower should know it would be much appreciated. Once again thanks for all the help. bongsmilie

I read that you keep the plant on a schedule of 18 hours of light, then 6 hours of dark. Then later you switch it to 12/12. When will I know that It's time to switch?
