Im making (or thinking of making) a candy-like edible. One step involves me boiling the cannabutter from 150 to 250 for about 10-20 minutes. ive heard so many things about boiling points and what-not. Some people say never make edibles that go above 250/300/350. some people say brownies prove a high bp, but others say that brownies are so thick they "capture' thc. Ive sifted through ALOT of shtuff, but my main concern is that i know chemicals evaperate even below their boiling point. Would cannabinoids heated at 150-250 for about 10-20 minutes be destroyed/evaperate at any concerning rate? or should i be ok?

TEMPERATURE THC OIL BOILS

At what temperature does THC oil boil? What temperature should I set my vaporizer at?

Michael G.,

THC has a boiling point of 200°C (392°F). However before the THC boils, other parts of the oil evaporate and boil.

Here are some important temperatures: At 21°C (70°F) the most volatile terpenoids start to evaporate, lending a pungent odor to the air.

At 31°C (87°F) the less volatile terpenoids start to evaporate, lending the air even more pungent odors.

At 39°C (102°F ) vir tually all of the terpenoids undergo evaporation fairly rapidly.

At 50°C (122°F) THC-Acid decarboxylates as the water molecule held in the carbonate form evaporates. This activates the THC.

At 66°C (150°F) Cannabidiol (CBD) melts and starts to evaporate.

At 185°C (365°F) Cannibinol (CBN) boils.

At 200°C (392°F) THC boils. Clear vapor from a vaporizer.
If this is true, which i suspect it is, im going to be entering the melting/evaporating phase for like 15 minutes, and i have to let the water evaporate so i cant put it in a pressure cooker or put a lid on it :/ so im actually REALLY worried about this :/

You should NOT boil your oil at such high temps. Never. The most fragile glandular material that is removed the earliest is also know to be the 'best' (think Iso or BHO extractions) and when you heat it up at such high temps, for so long, you are actually performing vaporization of your cannabinoids and those earliest, tastiest, strongest ones are the first to go :(

The reason you can get away with using higher temps in baked goods, is because the actual cake or cookies will not internally reach the temp you set the oven at, unless you over-bake them. Boiling and releasing so much vapor is an entirely different matter, and that is how you make candy.

If you want to make candy, caramel or otherwise, follow a reputable oil recipe and make it as seen here, by adding your hash/canna oil at the END, after you've heated your candy to the desired stage, and after it's already begun cooling drastically.. this is how you can heat up to 300f and make hard candy, without damaging your cannabinoids:

Added after boiling (the hash is the only color seen in the candy, it otherwise would be clear)

Mine glows :)

Good luck, and have fun! :)
