How often do you have to clean or replace the carbon filter?
every year, roughly, depending on how much you run it of course (no real need in early veg, add the filter to the ventilation once they begin to smell) you can take of and hand wash the outer cover (recommendable as dust do add up) if you have a high humidity it will last less as the carbon to clug up over time, once the filter is about done you will notice the ventilation don't pull as much air, and it of course also depend on the size of your filter/room and quality, but IME a year is about right

Gosh,

After hearing so much about the smell of these plants and the fact that I live in a small apartment building with other people so close by, AND because I have no way to create a vent system makes me feel that I might be better off finding a place in the woods and just grow that way? I live in an area where that wouldn't be *that* hard to do. Might I be better off going this route and grow guerilla style?

people and animals have a pretty good sense of smell, I wouldnt recommend outdoors unless you are confident absolutely no people come within 100 yards at least of your plant. carbon filters are miraculous in their job. they work wonderfully as long as you do your math right. filter all the air in your room once a minute, for example, a 10 x 10 x 10 room should have a 1000 cfm rated fan and filter. this will handle ALL of your smell no problem. You dont even have to exhaust your air, just "scrub" it in the room just gotta make sure your math is right.

also a option, use a few cheap 23W CFLs to veg out a bunch of small seedlings in Cup`s (one mother plants can also do the job if you have time to clone)

And find a few spots apart from each other and place a few seedlings on each (mark em with GPS if you have a memory like mine) that way you have a better chance to harvest at least one of em, but remember, water is the key, so either place em close to a lake/river/stream of get a backpack to carrie bottles on hot days when you do your new hobby, mountain biking or what ever you can come up with, don't go there with a Bob marly T-shirt and glasses smoking a splif and don't leave any garbages near, remove all other growth in a radius of a few ft so the small seedling don't have to compete for light/space/nutrients (you can get nutrients sticks that last for weeks)
'

best of luck with what ever you chose

Can you please tell me how to scrub the air with no vent? Maybe send me a link to a product that would do this? Is this a stand-alone indoor filter?

Slip, yes, I'd be super careful. I'd go to a place where nobody goes except me. Would it be okay to use a smart pot and just put it in an area that isn't super dense but not an open field? Like next to some bushes, etc? I'm much rather grow indoors... I had no idea these plants smelled so much, lol. Thanks for your input!

I would go indoor as well, in your case I would look at a small tent, get the 4" vent/filter and just scrup the air (reuse the air in your apartment, I do the same) of course open a window now and then (I guess you already do)

A small 3x3x6 tent, a small LED light and a small clip on fan and you will be on your way (easy to upgrade later on if you get more room at some point) if you like keep the tent in the closed, but keep the door open for most part so it can use the air in your apartment

alternative is a ozone generator, but cost as much as the filter/ventilation

and then you will still need a nice big PC fan or a small axial fan to provide fresh air circulation for the plant (more quieter then the 4" tho so take that in to consideration as well the 4" can be a bit loud if you sleep right next to it)

Can you please send me a link to a grow tent that would fit in my closet? Also, can you grow descent plants in one of these tents? this might actually solve all my problems.

Dirty, thanks. I wonder if these gel scrubbers really work. I'll have to do a lot of research before my seed hits the soil. I'd hate to be surprised!

From what I understand is that they work wonders. Especially on small ops like the one you have. Ive heard people use two. One right next to the tent or in the grow room, then another say in the living room or near your front door. Wherever a common area is, one that would possible have guests.

what they are made for, and why you need ventilation, and by that have the option to add a filter

some thing like this:

Slip, No, I meant for the tent. Do I built the tent or is there a good one to get? I hope there is one that has a place for the lights/filter hose, etc.

some thing like this

or this

or this one

last one look good, tho I would swap the HID with LEDs but thats just me, if you have the money to trow at em it do pay of, and I really like the fact that they make next to no heat, not like a 600W HPS that can warm a small apartment up and need lots of big ventilations and maybe a AC

I totally agree. Looks like my closet is going to be a little greenhouse, lol. I wish I owned my own home and didn't have to jump through all these freaking hoops!

Thanks much!!!
