Hi guys, first time poster. Am a week into the vegging process, growing White Widow in my closet with a 125w CFL and wanted to know if my plants look ok? Have seen pictures of other WW grows after this amount of time and they seem to be smaller in height but with larger leaves. Is variation normal? Any improvements i could make to my setup? I was investigating mylar, it's quite expensive (by my standards at least), is it worth it?

Also the plant on the far right is dragging behind quite a lot, as you can see it has smaller leaves and a thinner stem than the others. They all started growing at about the same rate but of some reason that one has lagged. Any reason this could be? It's been watered the same as the rest and is not any further from the light.

Thanks in advance :bigjoint:

they look healthy!!! BUT they definitely look like they are stretching for the light, those are some longggg stems, try moving the light closer. Whats your light setup??

Thanks for the advice, will do. What would you recommend as far as adding light? Another 125w cfl? (or a just-as-good cheaper way to do this? i'm a student and not exactly the most well off)

I have never used CFL's so I couldn't tell you exactly, I don't want to tell you inaccurate information. Hopefully someone here will let ya know what should be good! But if I had to guess I would say at least 1 more CFL, but wait for someone with CFL experience before ya go off to the store hah! Other than that looking great man, like DutchOven said put some more dirt around those stems so they wont fall over soon, because they are definitely saying they want more light when they stretch like that!

Take a look at my grow link below and you'll see how seedlings should look when they aren't stretched for light! Best of luck man!

Like i said, any light recommendations on the cheap side? (failed to mention that i'm UK based)

EDIT: sorry we posted at the same time, cheers for that.

home depot hit em up for a 6 pack of cfls or something highest wattage they have. take every light from your dorm thats not wired into the room and put them on your plants. Your plants have to be a priority if you want some good buds, light for your plants is more important than light for you..bummer

hey mate im on my first grow at the moment. using canna coco pro plus, with perlite. mixed it 50./50. im using a 105w cfl 6400k. im gettin 5 more 30w for £23.99, check amazon out they got lots of cfls on there. pritty cheap too! i thought it was better to get big watt cfls but tbh i think its much better with small watts cause u can place them all over the grow box. as for reflective material im using plain white paper atm. my box is kinda ghetto. but im slowly upgrading it. im growing 1 xchocolate chunk. 2x pineapple chunk, 1x chronic at the moment and all bagseed. hopin to get atleast one female. i also got another pineapple chunk for later on when ive Hopefully Harvested. Good luck.

day35bl1.jpgday33bl2.jpgweek 5 of veg with 4 cfls different spectrum highest watt i think was like 33 and the other 3 were in the 20's.
Using lamps with reflectors helps you really get the most lumens to the plant per light. Wal-mart sells these for $8 a piece

ur best bet is to get 42w CFLs those big ones arnt tht good cause u cant get them close to ur whole plant...and the lumen/watt ratio on the bigger CFLs sucks and so does the design alotta light get trapped inside..if u cud get a 150 HPS tht wud benefit u alot better than getting any CFLs..just a thought. good luck

I use 2 large 125Watt CFLs and they work very well. No heat issues so ignore what that other guy is talking about.

I would change the angle of your light to go horizontally. You should also manufacture a hood of some kind so the light is used most efficiently. That should help. Personally I think one bulb is a problem for 5 plants. Here are 2 plants and 2 bulbs:

I'm not sure if anyones said this but you should turn the pot a quarter of a full circle every once in awhile so they dont bend towards the light so much.

ok bro i used a 125w CFL for clones. i didnt say heat issue. i was just saying for the amount of lumens and light penetration for the wattage they're garbage. ur running 250 watts when u cud just run a 150 HPS and get better results.

how much space you working with?? that is what depends on what lights to use. those stems are long man repot and fill soil way up and cover them up, the stem will turn into a root and even start building hairs coming out. put your light 2-3 inches away from your plants. even if its in the middle and all plants are surrounding it and they arnt above it much it will still work. your plants ill just turn to the light and grow sideways. get them close as possible

UPDATE: (would be helpful if i could edit the thread title so that people respond to this post rather than the first one??)

The plants have been under lights for 12 days now and having taken some of the suggestions from here with regards to covering up the stems a bit and moving the light closer. Haven't been able to get my hands on additional lighting or mylar yet. How are they doing at this stage? Also this little one still hasn't come on at all, it just hasn't done anything. Any idea of the reason for this? Shall i just write it off?
