Newbie growing up north

hey guys,
New to the site, loving it so far the amount of information is amazing. Looking forward to learning a lot and having a few laughs. I live in the northern part of Quebec where usually its freezing but this year its different. We had no snow at all and we're looking at 20's and 30's Celsius by the end of may. Pot season is open for the first time in forever lol.

I was thinking of growing it in the middle of shrubs we have on the plains by not cutting down any trees, I manage to find a clear patch 20 feet round in the middle of shrubs near a lake thanks 2 google map. It's a secluded area that people don't bother with. The plan is to use a cultivator to loosen the soil, going down to about 4 feet and adding some fertilizer.

My question is what would be the best way to go about doin this as for fertilizer and soil prep?

Thanks guys,
JR

The shrubs are similar to them on the pic except denser without the brown little trees. 8-12 feet high and dense enough that it takes 20 minutes to cover a 100 feet

Well since no one else has helped I'll see what I can do..... Basically you just want to make sure your soil is as lite as possible... You obviously don't want the roots of your babies to have to struggle to get through that soil which is possible, so like you said, go ahead and till up to soil... Use whatever you must to do it... You may want to buy some top soil with organic nutrients already added. Itll help you out a lot and your plants will thank you for it... Just do a little research on here about soils, and organic nutrients. . . . It's very important. . . Anything else?lol. Good luck my friend.

Thanks man I will do some research on the soil. How far apart do the plants have to be? I will take some pics and keep you guys posted.

Make the holes wider than deep, say 4' round or larger and 2' to 3 ' deep max in the center not all the way to the edges. If it's clay test it by filling with water then fill again and see if it drains. If it drains well then amend the soil with perlite/pumice, coco is light and compact and helps a lot and then add the ferts. Do this ASAP to let it come alive.

Hey burn101,

I live in quebec also, near montreal. As for this year me and my friend are going for our second year of growing.
Are process was pretty simple, we started off with germing the seeds in humid paper and DvD case. After we made them grow inside in little pots for about 3-4 weeks.
We them transplanted them outside in an homemade "serre" which was a recycling bucked and a class piece over to keep the humidity (having a air system so they dont burn).

We waited around another 2-3 weeks before putting them completly outside. We dug a hole around 4' round but can't really remember of how deep (hole filled with soil mix that we found on this site).
Then each 3 weeks we went to see them to give them some "angrais" and thats it. Took them at the end of the season and been smoking on it all winter.

We started are new batch for this year about 4weeks ago.

Hope best with you're project, and will follow you're journal if you make one!!

Question about mixing the soil, should I mix store bought and the soil at the site in a 50-50 mix? My buds and I we're thinking of digging a big hole 20'x20' 4' deep and refillin it 1' at a time with 50-50 mix and cultivating it.

As far as store bought mix I only have 2 resources and it's canadian tire and wal-mart and they are 600km (375miles) to get to 'em lol.

1.So what should I buy ?

2.Is miracle grow a good company?

3.Are there good fertilizer I could order on the net?

4.Any good budding stuff I could order up?
