newbie in need of wee bit advice

just started out,so am totaly new to this but hav did a little research first.ok hav homemade grow box in garage size aprrox 4 1/2 feet tall same long and 2 1/2 feet deep .inside box all lined with diamond refflective sheet ,my lights are 5 85 watt cfl 6400k (which will change to 2400k when needed) which also in homemade relector which lowers up or down with pulleys which is also lined with diamond sheet, hav 2 4in fans one going in and one out ,temp rangeing in around 84 to 90 with allthe lights going, using soil mixed with verilite and checked ph is 6.8 .although did toast my first seedings as temps was way to hi and fitted fans to solve the prob.
now thats what i got now for the ????
With that set up can i grow decent grop.
What hight should i keep lights from young seedlings, gets bit warm when down low.
Will i be able to grow approx 6 plants to maturity,if i go for some of the smaller types.
any answers would be great ,and if i doing anything wrong so far please dont hesitate to say.thanks:bigjoint:

First off, Hi Mate..

Im growing in the uk too, i have CFL's also and can i ask - ?? are you using Auto's ?? , if so the plants will not grow much higher than 1ft
My plants have been under the lights for around 6 weeks now and are flowering nicely so...., when your plants get to around 2 weeks old you want your lights around 4-5inch away from the foliage when they get to around 3 weeks old put them a little closer and so on until you can have you lights about an inch and half to two inch away. Take a look at some of my pictures on my threads as a reference...

If you need any advice please dont hesitate to ask, im not super experienced of anything but i now know the basics of growing auto's

i pretty much agree with the heights that badman said... with the seedlings i'd keep them about 4 to 6 inches away from the tops of your plants or so.. if you hold you hand over the very top of your plants, and it's not too hot for your hand, it's not too hot for your plants.. as they get bigger they will be able to handle some more height and some more heat as well.. you'll want to keep those cfl's about an inch or so away from your plants when they get to around three or so weeks old...
with that size of a box, i've you're growing in soil, i don't honestly think that you'll be able to grow 6 plants unless you're going to do some serious lst of or even scrog on them... i like to say that one plant will take up a good square foot of grow space, if not a lil more, and it's better to leave a lil space between plants for air movement, but we always try and squeeze more in closer than we really should, lol..
with that size box, i'd think you may get away with three or four nice sized plants.. height is going to be an issue for you though if you think about pot size and what height you're going to be losing from the size of the hood for the bulbs as well, you're not going to be left with tons of room vertically for your girls... but don't fret, it can be pulled off fine.. like i said, i would seriously think about some lst, or low stress training where you tie the plants down to keep them short, or even scrog, a screen of green where you place a wire cage or the like above your canopy and weave the growing plants in and out of the wire to keep the plants from growing to tall.. once the plants start to flower, all you'll have it lots and lots of tops growing up above the wire fence or whatever you used.. looks pretty awesome and works great for small spaces as well..
also, the last thing i wanted to touch on is that you're temps are definitely on the higher end of things, and you should look for ways to bring them down into the 68 for a low to 78 for the high end.. of course they can handle lower or higher, those temps are optimal.. 5 or so degrees on way or the other is about where you'd want to keep it, low 60's and low 80's max max. other than that, sound like you're off to a good start.. goodluck with the grow m8..

Sounds like you can use some more ventilation in there...You should use both of those 4in fans as exhaust and just run with a passive intake...It'll probably solve your heat problems.

thanks for getten bk to me,seeds i hav at min where results of a few sneaky males in a crop of a friend of a friend so seeds where plentyfull and free .lol.hav no idea what strain they are was just experimenting with my set up first to see how it went before bought my own .cheapass i no.lol.but hav seen those autos ur talken about, does that mean u hav to mix ur cfls to both red and blue spectrum???,cos if can get temps down a bit was def going try some of those out.

If you are using Auto's then just use the blue spectrum through veg stages then introduce the red spectrum to the plants and also keep the blue there through flowering...

cfls can at times get as hot as hids, maybe consider vegging under cfls and blooming under hid, you'll get bigger and better results.
