Newbie needs tips

Ok so I'm new to this growing thing. I'm currently growing two plants right now. I don't know the type because I got the seeds from a friend. But I was just wondering if you guys and any tips for me?! I'm using two 40 watt cfls.

And I went with 12/12 right off the bat. I don't want the plants getting too big, so when they sprout a bit bigger, I'll tie them down. When will the plants start smelling?

Could only take a couple weeks for them to start stinking, could take a couple weeks into flower for them to start selling. Its strain dependent so best be prepared to manage it.

Make sure that soil dries out a bit before you next water, it is possibly to kill this plant with too much love. Plus letting it dry out some will force the roots to stretch out and search for water, this will be a good foundation to achieving a strong root system.

And also you're going to need more light by the time it shows preflowers if you want any sort of yield. More light=more energy for the plant to grow

more Light jabroniee if dont already have one get a fan to help the plant with its carbon dioxide to oxygen conversion. I personally agree with growing as long as you can.... shorter you let flower the more of a head high= headace the longer the more of a body relaxed high

Get your light as close as you possibly can without touching.
Doing this, you can veg for up to a month, and if you keep enough light and close enough throughout the grow, even after you flip, if you do some LST, you can keep plant height down under a couple feet (not counting soil) and you will be well rewarded with the increase in final harvest weight...... ESPECIALLY if you top once or twice!!!
Last summer, I did one, under about 300 or so watts of mixed 2700k and 5000k CFL's in a 2wx2dx4h closet, only vegged it for 28 days, topped once, and had it in a 5 gal. bucket, along with one other plant in a 2 gal. bucket in there, and got over 4 1/2oz. off her.
As far as smell, that all depends on the plant.
I've never been lucky enough to need filters since none of mine ever seem to smell as much as I'd like them to.

First off, you need more light. I recommend HPS, other people may like other shit but I recommend HPS. Buy a big ass fan to keep the area cool. Don't worry about the smell until flower. It'll get a little stinky in preflower but no worries. Grow her under you've reached about 1/3 your space. I usually keep her vegging around 55 days, I get a nice 3 to 4 foot plant And about 3 lbs off her. I top multiple times, check out my last batch. I topped her like 4 6 times and have tops all over the place. Use LST, this will hook you up like crazy. It allows light to reach areas where it normally cant. good luck
