alright well dont noob me in the comments. but ive been reading up on the subject on making my own grow and would like to get some info from experts. feel free to correct me.


my general question is should i use high pressure sodium bulbs ?
i was thinking of using LED for the cost. but i heard i read you get bigger yields if you use HPS or even metal halide?

.also if your grow room is to humid then then what do you have to purchase to get the level down?> de-humidifier??

Can someone explain to me why having a PPM (parts per million) device is so important, and how to the nutrients at the right PPM

next q. if have 2 strains and i have a male and a female in a separate location will the male produce seeds if it isnt in the flowering stage. meaning will it pollunate the female in veg state.

what should i do when it begin to grow FIMMING OR TOPPING ??

What type of nutrients do you use for veg and flowering stages?

and why in the Attack of the block(movie) were they using uv lights, do they work just as good as regular fluorescent lights.

when do you change from Fluorscents to HPs ??

How do i water seedlings/ how often>?? like just do 1/4 of what it says on the nutrients table.

How early can i flower me seedlings to know the sex?

and does re-harvesting really work? like you just put the stalk back under 19/5 lighting.

do i kill a hermi, or just harvest it for seeds>??

and if anyone can do me the biggest favor and light the supplies for a grow room, i was thinking either ebb and flow, or aeroponic

If i was on a comp i would help you

But all that is a lot forva first grow. Keep it simple and get the feel for it.

You can veg and flower under just mh if you want and still get great results

Wow that's alot of questions. My advice is to do alot more reading. Find a book, I went Mel Frank's marijuana growers guide. Read a few journals (I got one) that are detailed from start to finish. Research is never ending and asking a ton of questions in one thread will get you enough answers to confuse you. I wish the best of luck with everything

ok thnx for the input. yea i know but once i get the answers. i wont need any help until i get pesticides, and the local shops can help me with that.

MH/HPS switchable ballast, mh for veg, hps for flowering. Cfls are convenient and very good for veg and I personally don't like leds.

If humidity is too high and you don't want to fork out the cash for a dehumidifier, they make a product called Damprid, look it up.

PPM is more important for hydro than soil, soil acts as a buffer and the ppms have more wiggle room, also most lines of nutes have a feeding chart which make things easier.

Males' pollen sacs will open up and pollen will be released into the air, If pollen lands on a female pistil it will recede into the bud and produce a seed, takes a minimum of six weeks for the seed to fully ripen, and no, females can only be pollinated during flowering.

Training, Topping and Fimming are a matter of personal preference, as a new grower I would recommend just letting them grow natural first run through.

High N, Low P, Low K for vegging, Low N, High P, Moderate K for flowering, Micro Nutes are also important, most products have a feeding chart/schedule you should follow.

Cannabis can't survive off UV lights alone, some growers believe that a plant will produce more resin to protect itself from damaging UV radiation.

You don't have to, but daylight florescent have a better spectrum for vegging as hps has a better spectrum for flowering.

Generally you feed/ water the plants when the top few inches of soil becomes dry or when the the weight of the container seems drastically light. You don't need to feed the plants for at least 2-4 weeks depending on soil quality, then you can start off with 1/4-1/2 nute strength.

You can go 12/12 from seed if you want, but it will take a while for it to show sex. Typically preflowers will show 10-14 days after the photoperiod changes.

Yes, you can have multiple harvest from one plant, leave the lower leaves and popcorn buds on the bottom, switch the light to 18/6-24/0 and start feeding it veg nutes again, wait for it to get to a desired height and flower it again.

Kill the hermie or pluck it's pollen sacks off if you don't want it to fertilize your entire grow room.

The last question is another matter of personal preference, those systems come with step by step instructions and if you get confused just ask a clerk at your local hydro shop.

Woah...I'm a noob as well, but ya gotta slow down, bud. I agree with the comment above...keep it simple. Cfl are good, but my understanding is the nugs won't be as dense, or as nice all around as with HID. Hps can be used throughout the cycles, but MH should only be used during vegging. As far as nuts, again, KEEP IT SIMPLE. Find out what your ladies like, always start with just a touch of nuts, ferts. Titrate the amount as tolerated. The ladies are very resiliant, and will survive a nute burn, or lockout, if addressed relatively quick. Flowering for sex? Well, I just know that your plants will sex themselves when the times comes...patience and TLC, you'll b OK.

I just moved and rebuilding a small room atm. I ordered Sensi Seeds Shiva Skunk yesterday just to get me going. Wanted something easy the first round so I picked that. Next grow I'll step it up some.

i read all that stuff and here's my two cents.... which i reserve the right to change my mind at anytime.
1...LED's are great IMHO. Because of heat and the added UV in LED's. LED's are great PAR producers. Ed Rosenthall said that. check out my LED grow

2...Ventilation out of the grow room is important. Intake is also. A de-humidifier isn't that expensive. Or an A/C. removes moisture and cools the air.
3...The ppm thing is important in hydro which I've never done. If you plan to do an aero garden, I'm answering two questions at the same time, then prepare to babysit it. You won't have a life.
4...Um...No

6...look at my journals for nutes i've used...techniflora, sugar daddy, epsom salts. currently i'm using MG nutes and Magic Green foliar spray. Worth the 27 bucks.
7...UV alone isn't enough for photosynthesis. LED's btw produce more UV. and another tip...the last two weeks of a grow can be done in MH as HPS doesn't help the plant to max out trich production as much as HPS. Again Ed Rosenthall.

11...don't bother, but yes it does.

About my PPM comment, I don't want to steer you he wrong way. When I started, I did use a meter, cause i had no clue about my water or nutes I was using. After a while of using the same nutes and same water, I would know the ppm just from repition, therefore I don't really need to use one. But as a beginner I would recommend using one, it will help you greatly.
