Hello

Just a quick question about Electric Bill with DTE .

I live in a house around 1,200 square feet and my electric bill is around $140 a month if I ran

2 x 600w HPS
2 X Fans
1 X Dehumidifier

Do you think the price of my bill will sky rocket out of no where? And if you have you're caregiver card does DTE mess with you about anything do they know what you are doing?

Thanks :peace:

(Wattage × Hours Used Per Day ÷ 1000 = Daily Kilowatt-hour (kWh) consumption I doubt DTE will care.
Haven't looked latley, but I think the going rate is probably 8.5 to 10 cents a kWh. Figure out your consumption daily and multiply it by your going rate, then you can figure out your monthly cost.

id say it will go up to 450-600$. pg&e charges more for a KWH when you use more energy. so say you get charged 11 cents a KWH but if you go up into highter "tiers" from more usage then they charge you like 25 cents a KWH!! it blows!!!

Are you saying that it's going to add 450-600 $ or are you guessing his current consumption and adding your estimate of his consumption?

5000w X 12h / 1000= 60 kWh per day X 30=1800 Kwh per month. 1800 X .09 per kWh= $162

There ya go, just look at how much everything consumes, figure out how many hours a day. Add it up.
1200w X 12h/ 1000=14.4 kWh per day. So at 9 cents per kWh, both lights 12 hrs. a day would cost $1.30 a day.

well in my area i tryed to run just a 1000w HPS, fans and whatever and my bill went from 150$ to $450!!! it was crazy so then i called up PG&E and asked what was going on because when i did the math on a 1000w it came out to like 50$ at 13 cents a KWH. they said that i went into the third "pear" of usage so they were charging me 28 cents a KWH. needless to say i was blown away!!

Thanks Trich, I owe the formula to RIU some where a long the line. So, respect due. I figured if I was go to do anything, best to know the real cost. I wonder what portion of growing is typically the most expensive for people? Aside from the initial cost of equip. I'm going to guess that it is the electrics.

LOL!! Not a very good guess. You multiply the wattage (600) by the number of hours per month it will be running (720 if on 24 hrs a day) then you divide that number by 1000, then times that by the current peak hour DTE rate (around 7.5 cents).

This is the math ......... 600 x 720 divided by 1000 x .075 = $32.40.

Include your other equipment, and the bill should jump around $35.00 a month. You also have to factor in the draw from the ballast. A 1000 watt light (for example), will actually have a round a 1100 watt draw when you factor in the ballast as well.
