Newbie Questions

i am a newbie first time grower and i had a few questions. my first is since we recently planted a garden at the side of our house, the soil around their is very fertile and good quality. i was wondering if it would be ok for me to use some of that or if i have to buy soil. my other question is how to get ride of the smell. i am stealthy growing it in a small wooden chest in my closet, and smell is a very big concern. it is good because nobody ever checks in their but i am wondering how to get rid of the smell, the cheaper the better. i have heard people talking about using a carbon scrubber, but i dont know what that is or how it works. thanks for the help

You can make a carbon filter yourself or you can get one online/ in a hydro store for a bit of a fee. Soil is cheap in stores but if you insist on using your own you should bake it a bit to rid it of any pests.
Here's a link to a guide on the carbon filter there's others out there but this is the first I found.

i would not use soil from the outside, it could contain anything so like john rightly said, bake it in the oven first. It is cheap at any store or you could go one bit further and get some proper growing soil from your local hydro store, ( i use bio-bizz light mix ). to get rid of smell - this is all based around good ventelation, i got a couple of fans in my grow room, if you get a carbon exhaust fan (depending on how big your grow room/closet/draw is) this will also get rid of the smell really well. not sure where you are but here in the UK i can get a good quality carbon exhaust fan for £40.00, hope this help ya man and happy growing..
