I'm new to hydro and I'd like to make 2-5gal bubbler buckets and need to know what medium would be best for a newb to use. Also any nute suggestions would be appreciated as well.
+1 for hydrotonHydroton clay pebbles ALL DAY!!!! They are awesome. Also they float in water so when u transplant you can put the pebbles in the net pot, submerge in water so pebbles are floating, then just poke the roots into the pebbles. When you pull the net pot out gravity does the rest and you have just transplanted without putting things into shock.
Rockwool will fluctuate ph and coco will fall through your net pot.
I was debating on running my next Dwc with just a rubber stopper into a 5 gallon bucket like on the aerocloners. So how does your dwc setup run with those foam collars? Got any pics? The best media is no media. In hydro the media is just for plant support and while all can do this many cause issues with pH or other issues. I run my aero and dwc set ups with no media, just net pots and foam collars. I can pick up my 5gal dwc buckets with 3-4' plants and easily move them, tilt them, check and adjust pH, and change res without ever making a mess or worrying about the plant. If you have ever stepped on hydroton with bare feet you will appreciate never doing it again.
Sick I'll check it out.I did a dwc thread called, e z dwc, I think it was. I just use 2" net pots and collars and the pull to length twist tie to secure stalk to lip of bucket.
I disagree...I been growing just over a year indoors now, and I still am working out the kinks, and fucking things up every now and then, and scared of hydro growing still (soil here), you got some balls to start with hydro. Unless you have gardened before, that is.
thats pretty much what I do too...The best media is no media. In hydro the media is just for plant support and while all can do this many cause issues with pH or other issues. How do you plant germinated seeds like that?thats pretty much what I do too...
No need for medium really...

So u just take the seedling outta the plug and put it in the rubber stopper or foam? I'd like to try the no medium thing sounds a lot easier and less messy. Also how does the top feeding work after the transplant, do u just water like once a day or multiple times since there is no medium? Its easy man start a seed or clone in a rapid rooter plug,
wait a week maybe two, when u see roots comming
out of the bottom of the plug transfer to dwc.
top feed for a couple days then your good to go.
