newbie with a couple questions regarding harvest prep and cleaning sticky fingers

I have ONE plant... It is pretty and stinky.... My son has told me to trim all the excess leaves off the buds and off the underneath parts of the plant and I am slowly doing that. There are somewhere around 200 18 inch long buds shooting up from the top and sides of the plant so trimming the leaves is time consuming and STICKY... so my questions.... Is my son correct about getting rid of the leaves on the buds and underneath and second how do I keep from being all stuck together and smelling like I just got high? My fingers just don't seem to clean off. Thanks in advance for your help. I am a disabled Viet Nam Vet and cant afford to buy this stuff but it really helps me.......

Welcome tim,,,, to RIU, Are you harvesting as of now, if not then I would say not trim leaves, as for sticky fingers use gloves ( medical / latex or such )

also post pics when u can whole plant and some close ups

welcome home!

Try alcohol on your hands and get some rubber gloves.
There are many different opinions on trimming.

I sometimes trim wet so I can make full melt bubble hash. Sometimes I do not trim at all and crumble the leaves off as I smoke it.

It is up to you.

rub your hands together vigoursly until the resign clumps up into little sticky balls on your hands, then smoke it :bigjoint: Otherwise use non powdered latex gloves while trimming and that will keep the resin off your hands. What your son has suggested is called lollipoping, where you trim off immature bud that is unlikely to fulyl mature before harvest so energy can be redirected to the top buds so they grow better, as for trimming off leaves I don't recommend it as even fi they aren't getting light they contain stored food for the plant but opinions on this differ greatly from person to person

Thank you for your sacrifice. I trim all of the fan leaves off first then I trim the buds sugar leaves and put them in a seperate paper bag. If you have such a thing as a dollar store where you live they have thin plastic gloves for a buck a box. If not use lava it'l scrub that shit right off.

Spray some Pam on your hands or use veg or olive oil. It works great for cleaning stainless steel appliances also.

i tried using non powdered gloves but i couldnt get the gloves on my giant hands so i just trim without gloves and i keep gasoline to wash my hands with and wipe it on my clothes to get rid of the smell well to overpower it so others cant smell ive been trimming but my grow site and harvest place is not in my home.

After you scrape your hands, and tools.. Break out the mineral/baby oil... Fight fire with fire..

Very little breaks up the oils and sticky, like that oily crap, but that oily crap washes away easily.

Try it.. worse that can happen is you try something else, and you have baby soft skin. Serius though, give it a try.

Wow 200 18" buds off one plant, your talking 200oz , over 5kilo off one plant, you got a picture ?
How do you manage that ?
Just put your fingers in the freezer for 30 mins or dip them in boiling water but whatever you do don't rub your eyes.
