I'm not an expert by any means, but I would get a bigger cab/box. My prediction is you are going to spend the money trying to get that rubbermaid to work with lackluster results regardless of the bulb type. An HPS, A filter, Ventillation...you have no room for plants. Get rid of that shelf and put a cheap wardrobe/ armoir there. Good luck man.

it shouldn't be too terribly small should it?

its basically a more evenly rounded computer grow box.

is it still too small to do just one to three plants? i have the dimentions in my first post.

A TON of research....and that is all you've come up with ? My short research tells me you ain't gonna grow shit in that box....do as Mrdank07 says.....

Let me make sure I have the facts straight. You have 18 inches of height. Space is the worst enemy on small grows. As I said, I am no expert, but I can break it down on common sense. A 1.5 gallon pot is 8-9 in high. At a minimum you will lose 6in on the pot, which puts you at 12. Mounting CFLs on top is 2 in so you are down to 10, plus you need 2 in between your plants and bulbs if your ventillation is actually working, so now you are at 8 in of grow room max. In reality, you're probably going to end up with 4-6 in. With the money you are going to spend and the 2-3 months you are going to put in, you may get a small amount of weed that is not great quality. I know you said yield was not that important, but we aren't talking the difference in ounces we are talking the difference in grams here. I can't see an HPS in there, I can't see adequate ventilation with a pc fan hooked to a filter. Not trying to hate, just trying to help, but I think you need a different game plan. I would tell everyone what space is available and what the budget is and I know the pros can help you with a set up based on those guidelines. I would not worry about power consumption unless you are planning on major weight and using an entire room to grow.

ok that helps me out a lot.

im just running off of practicality for what i have available. I just wanted to do a slightly bigger pc stealth grow...

do those pc stealth grows not work then?

i have a new game plan. . .

youll like it.
i need help with it tho.
ill post a picture of it in a second.

ok the tent thing is a good idea.

is that easy to smell proof?

the reason i liked the bin idea was because it was removable. . .

i have two options here and ill post pics of what imtalkin about

yyou let me know which you think is best.

From what I've seen, those PC grows are for one plant and have taller cases than your rubbermaid. And you need to be spot on with LST.
Generally, they look like the use 1 or 2 high watt CFLs and short ryder plants.

Unless you want to get a carbon filter/fan, I wouldn't worry about smell proof as much as smell manage. I would keep it away from the front door. I would go through the design set up section for a couple of hours.

ok so i can take the backs and bottoms out of all the drawers in here and hang a light, cover the inside in mylar, and put the plants on the floor in a little topless bin/tray

or i can buy a grow tent preferably no more then two and a half feet high and three feet wide.

which do you think is safest for me in my situation?

since im all about safety and being paranoid (i think paranoia is your best friend)
i want to do a carbon filter/fan no matter what i do.

alright

i got it

im going to buy / modify a metal frame similar to the one in my pictures and put panda film and mylar around it and lights at the top.

I just need to figure out how to do the ventilation and how to make the material so i can get in and out of the tent easily. . .

I would opt to buy a tent if that's an option. 3 feet wide is plenty, but I would go up much higher. You need to figure out a budget. Look at how big those fanfilter combos are. Unless you can figure out one of these DIY filters and actually make it work (PC fans and booster fans won't cut it), once you spend the money and size on a pro-filter/fan, you might as well go big 600w HPS, cool tube, ect. If this is your first grow, get a managable size set up, throw some CFLs and PC fans in it and grow 2-3 plants knowing you are going to chop at least 1 male unless you order seeds. See how bad the smell is in your place during flower, try covering it up from there, make a bunch of mistakes, make adjustments and see if this something you want to invest more into. You are going to want fans inside the box blowing across the plants as well for ventillation and thickening up the stems. Again, space is the worst enemy. I have an engineering nightmare myself trying to do too much with too little room. The more room, the cleaner and easier.

i'll get back on a early question on PC grows, though you seem to be going to a bigger direction
some seemed to have done good ones, but i had no luck at all, plant grew to a small size and just lingered
went back to my regular size setup, and plant took off
from what i can tell, small pots and organic soils don't always work well together

Doing small grows takes some fanagling/trial and error and most likely you are going to have to make a concession somewhere. In your case, I have a feeling it's going to be perfect odor control. Do a LOT of research. I'd put a tent in my office and just be done with it, but I live with my fiancee, so starts the concessions of trying to make decent yield /quality somewhat stealthy with the room I have.

ok well can i manage growing the plant using SCROG from one side of the tent to the next? I dont have the luxury of height unfortunetly.

so my new plan is this wire metal shelf minus the middle shelf piece. ill cover it with canvas, make a zipper for the middle and cover the inside with mylar.

the only thing that i dont know how to do is easily attach the filter or some sort of ventilation. most likely ill have to keep the grow tent in my closet or living room. either way it would be great to have ventilation to make the grow tent, some what easy to move if i need to.

it would be way better if i just owned a house but i dont have that kinda money yet.

any ideas with this new info?
