Newbie with question about DG and already having a license to grow my perscription

Hi All,
I'm new to the legal side of medical marijuana.
I have recently been issued a HC license to grow 49 plants for my own perscription.
My question is.
With the new laws coming into effect in Canada, do I still need to get a DG license if I want to continue to grow? Or will I get the same oppurtunity to "legalize"as the DG's?
What happens to the personal growers? We can't afford a price hike from $1.50/gram(grow your own) to $8+/gram(dispensary).
My perscription is for 8g/daily and I don't think my insurance company is gonna flip the bill. Not without a heck of a fight anyways. (I'd be broke before I won LOL).
If Health Canada is gowing to make these changes I think some of the costs will have to be absorbed by the Gov't or it will never be affordable
Any input would be appreciated as I'm a little confused right now lol.

You never needed to have a DG, you can grow for yourself. If you have a license, you are legal now. You may only get a year out of that license though. After that you will no longer be allowed to grow for yourself or designate someone to do it for you.

Once pot gets a Drug Identification Number it could be covered under insurance. You can claim it on your tax return now, up to $10,000 I believe.

I was just wondering about this mostly because there's this website called Greenline Academy and they said that the DG in Canada will become a commercial license and that a person should get their DG now and they will get a chance to apply for that commercial license when they phase out the current program. So I've been a little confused. Wondering if it's in my best interest to get the DG anyway so I would be able to continue growing. Just in case I don't get the oppurtunity to apply for "commercial status" as a personal grower.

Being a DG, or having one is no guarantee towards a commercial producers license.

It's in your best interest to find a DG asap if you dont plan to grow for yourself. Even if you find a DG tomorrow, it will likely be a few months before you receive anything from them.

Get your own Production lic to grow your own, if you own your own property, can afford the set up and can physically do the work - potting/watering and by the time the gov gets around to phasing out the current program, it could be years and years. They are already behind.

If you are not able to grow your own, you can find a DG that can grow for you at a compassionate rate. If you find one already on the go, they may have meds they can start sending you asap.
