newbie with questions...

I have a few questions and any help would be greatly appreciated.. I am new to growing and have some plants that i had started under 4 23 watt 6500k cfls and now have 8 23 watt 2700k cfls for flowering... i have had them in veg for about a month and now just flipped them to 12/12 about 4 days ago... they are in a cab that is 3' long by 1' wide and 3.5' tall.. i have 8- 2" vent holes (4 top 4 bottom) and two small 4" fans and a pc fan..

my questions are:
1. do i have too many lights in this area??
2. it is bag seed so i have no clue what strain it is, how long to determine sex?


can you please help me out and tell me what i may be doing wrong or i can change?? thanks for everything in advance

Can't say when the sex will show, it depends on how long it takes to flower with your light setup. You should know what you are looking for though, so you can pull the males quickly. Once you see little sacks by the nodes, (the balls), pull them carefully. Regarding your lights, that's not too many... as long as the temp stays between 70-90. How many plants? That's an incredibly small space for even one plant. You might want to top them to make sure they will fit, and shape it so it has room to grow branch buds. What size pots do you have them in? You're going to have fun trying to keep them small, hopefully its a short strain. Any possibility of pics? Good luck.

i have 10 plants in there at the moment... i know its way too much but im trying to figure out the males n females... havent really got the understanding of topping them yet.. i have them in 6x6 inch pots.. im almost out of room with a couple of them right now... ill try to post pics as soon as possible.... as soon as i figure out which are males ill transfer the females to bigger pots... thanks for the help, its greatly appreciated

No, actually looks like you could use more light. The plants look healthy but a bit stretched.

It normally takes 1-2 weeks under 12/12 before you will see signs of flowers. If you have a good eye you can check for pre-flowers after about a week.

My only advice is to top those plants a.s.a.p, you don't want 6 foot tall plants on your hands lol. And more light wouldn't hurt!

im trying to figure out how to top my plants... reading up on it now... it feels really hot in there when i open the doors but i havent found a good thermo-hygrometer yet ... i dont know how much more lights i can fit in there... maybe ill try to build a pvc light thing but i might be getting a better grow tent soon with better lighting from a friend.... i cant have 6 ft tall plants, i dont have the room... i had them in veg for about a month n was thinking of doing a SOG kinda thing...

Just remember plants can double or even triple in size after starting 12/12. This is exactly why I prefer growing 12/12 from seed. There really is no wrong way to top the plants as long as you don't cut them too low. Just cut the main stalk right above the new branch growth around the 3rd or 4th node. It will allow the smaller branches to receive more light and start to bush outwards instead of vertically.


LST/super-cropping/Scrog also does wonders, if done correctly.

I've jus tried topping a few to see if I got the technique down n if all goes well, ill top the rest... I'm hoping I can get the hang of this.. if I minimize the amount of plants in there to maybe 3 females would I have enough light or do I still need more??

Ur gonna have some issues with the space and heat; imo, if it feels HOT to you it IS HOT for them. For height you also have to factor depth/height of container. so if ur containers are 12" (I'm thinking min. 'final pot size') then that leaves just a small space for them height wise (tho not impossible at all).

I have another question, should I give them 24 hours of dark now or is it too late since I already started the 12/12?? How much light would be suggested for my cab size??
