Should i control it between 17-22 degrees c or just let it drop to around 16

I would try to keep between 20 and 28 as lights out-on min -max temps

I fixed that in my tent with an Inkbird controller and small analog heater. Super cheap but effective. I think the Inkbird is around $35. Low temps can effect growth.

Depends on the size of plant. Smaller then 4 nodes and you risk cold stunning them. Bigger plants can take lower temps.
I go in stages.
Sprout to 4 nodes, 29°c. 24/7
4 or more nodes, 28° to a low of 25°
Full grown late veg to early flower, 28° lights on, 24° lights off.
To further stir the discussion.
My present temp schedule.
6am 24°
7am 25.5° <------ lights on
8am 28°
7pm 25°. <---- lights off.
I go in stages.

yeah, i have a heater ordered but the cold snap here and new lockdowns has screwed me a little, ah well live and learn, cheers mate.

I don't agree with that at all. Very min 20 and max around 28 is optimal. I have never heard of temps over 25 stunting growth. If pushing CO2 into a sealed grow space you can push temps up to 30 to 35 as far as I know but I don't use C02 in my tent. You also want to be on the warmer end if using LED as plants under LED tend to like more heat.
I read 25+ stunts growth maybe depending on co2 levels isit?

No worries, I am here in Canada so I know what you mean. I switched to LED from HPS this run heading into winter and had to add the heater as my LED does not kick off nearly as much heat.
