The drug smugglers got away, but they left behind an ultra-light plane with more than $500,000-worth of marijuana and meth strapped to it, Border Patrol officials say.
The Indio-based agents found the abandoned aircraft at 8:20 a.m. Wednesday about a mile west of Highway 111 near Niland.
Most of the packages contained 189.4 pounds of pot with an estimated street value of $151,520 or about $800 per pound
