Nitro def?

Hi all, looking for an opinion on my plants' issues.
2 plants growing indoor
600 watt hps
Watering 2x per week
Soil is ffof, 3 gal fabric pot
Just entering 2nd week veg

2 days ago:

Potted 9 days ago
Added straight tap water to dry soil on day 1
Watered 1/2 gal distilled water day 5
Watered 1/2 gal tap water day 8, adjusted ph to 6.5
Testing my tap water after the fact shows a ph above 7, I think 7.5

So, I think this is nitrogen def. I haven't used any nutes yet as I read ffof shouldn't get nutes for 3 to 4 weeks due to its own nute content.
I mixed up a batch of ff grow big, 6 tsp/gal which is according to the ff feeding schedule, but chickened out before watering thinking I was just going to cause more probs than solve.

Should I feed or should I keep watering with ph adjusted tap water?

Kinda looks burnt to me. How close is your light? from what i understand little guys don't need all that much light right away...

my fabric pots get like bone dry by the end of the day but then again it's dry af here. and have you been adjusting the ph of all watering or just a few?

600 watt hps with air cooled hood is around 24"-30" above.
Air temps sit around 78° with the light on.
Watered 3 times over 8 days, only began ph adjusting with this last watering 2 days ago.

Idk man my next guess would be ph issue... I don't think n def would cause the leave to curl and shrivel like that. maybe someone with a little more knowledge will chime in but thought I'd make an attempt to help in the mean time

There is no way in hell you're getting N deficiency so early with FFOF (all things being equal). I agree on pH issues. Unless your tap water comes out to a pH of 8-9, you probably shouldn't need to pH it.

He said his tap is around like 7.5 and idk what your soils ph is Google search said ffof is usually like 6.5-.8.

or maybe your tap had a high chlorine level. I know mine does.

I agree with you that ffof shouldn't result in n def. Everything I have read says ffof runs hot with nutes. I agree ph has got to be the issue. I got my hands on a soil meter and it has the ffof above 7.20161129_204120.jpg
With that info, the ph charts have maybe iron deficiency. The pics don't look like iron to me.

Either way, I think I'll yank em and start fresh.

Just kidding. Think I'm gonna go with maybe 5.5 ph water, no nutes? Try to bring that ph back down? They don't look like they're gonna die. I've just never seen a young plant with this problem. My previous grows using MG always looked perfect green until flowering.

I think more frequent watering with a smaller amount of water would be beneficial.
What if any changes to your watering style did you make from your 1st grow to the second?
Did you make any other changes? Did you use fabric pots the 1st grow?

1/2 gallon a water is not enough for a 3 gallon pot. I bet you have dry areas within the medium causing what is know as an antagonistic situation. Water very well until you get some decent runoff and are sure all the medium is receiving water. Remember that over watering is caused by watering too frequently. Not by giving too much water when they need watering. You can pH your water all you want to, but its just a waste of time. The medium dictates pH. Not the water going in. You simply cannot adjust a soil/soiless mediums pH with the water going in.

I agree with you, tramp. I think it was just not enough water. I wasn't getting much runoff. I've never used fabric pots before, or this size. they seem to dry out fast.My previous grows were in 7 inch plastic pots. So maybe a super good rinse with lots of runoff is the way to go!

I ran a gallon apiece today, but stupidly lowered the ph to 5.5. I tested the runoff and, well, 5.5. So whatever. But there was a big puddle in the tray, so that's good.

I raised the light a couple inches, now prob 30 inches.

Right before I gave her an acid bath:
