Hey all,

Just wondering if I could get some advice. These girls ( 2 White Widow and 2 Northern Lights) are about 21.5 cm tall (8.5 inches) and have gone through there 1st topping and I was wondering if I should be doing anything other then waiting for them to hit the SCROG net (which is set to 46 cm or ~18inches) Please tell me if im doing anything wrong

Honestly a SCROG net wouldn't be much help at the stage your girls are in. I too am growing (X2) White widow & 1 surprise Kush. I have been working hard on LST since week 2. If I was you I would start now and train those girls to grow horizontal. Use wire to tie them down in your soil. Check out my pictures. They are a month and a half old and check out the growth from my LST. I highly suggest you do the same. Especially the WW they are very leafy. Keep me updated.

Read a few good long books to help pass the time?

Will do man thanks for the input

Just leave them alone and let them grow. Looks like you've got some nice happy and healthy plants going!

Personally when it is time I would set up the screen lower like 12-14 inches and train them to fill it in as soon as they get to it. The idea of a scrog is to spread out the plants flat and create as many tops as possible, while keeping all those tops at the same level for canopy control and light coverage.

Why grow 18 inches of stem under your screen? Typically you lollipop under the screen for air flow, so then there would be an 18 inch stem taking up height. If you set your screen lower, then you can begin to train the plant sooner and fill your screen sooner.

Lately I've seen a lot of people using nets as plant supports and calling it a scrog. A scrog should have a sturdy fixed position screen that the plant is trained to grow into. It's not just a net you put up to support the stems. True scrogs are an awesome training process. Plant support nets are awesome too, they just are scrogs :).

Ok Awsome, sounds like what I need to do is lower it down a few inches and start training now.

I know just LST would probably be just as good but if I'm being honest it makes me a bit nervous and I dont know when and how to do it (this being my 1st grow). So I figured a screen would be the best option. I learn more every day...thanks for the advice

There isn't anything to train yet they need to get bigger. They just came off the topping, let them grow. When they get to be 12ish inches start thinking about putting your screen in and bending the tops so they stay under it and grow side ways. You could even top each side of the plant in a week or 2 to double your branches if you wanted.

When new branches grow, bend them under so they grow sideways. Ideally filling your screen about 3/4 full and then switching to flower. You basically want one little budsite(top/branch) in each hole of your screen when its done stretching. If you do it right though, the whole screen will stay about the same height with a nice even canopy.

LST is great, but you still need more size before you will be able to train it much.

Bruv starting LST as soon as that baby breaks soil. This way she learns early while the stem is thin to grow horizontally to produce as many colas as possible. Check out some of my pics on how my girls shaped up from a month ago.

Your plants look great man! I said he couldn't train them much yet, I didn't say at all. Your right, LSTing the fan leaves gently out of the way like you did with your seedlings would allow more light down to the nice branches he is getting going. Then if he wanted he could LST the branches also. The Scrog screen will do a fine job of this as well though if he goes that route.
