No heat issue - How close

I just got a 8" ducted Blockbuster hood and I run about 750 cfm through it over a 1000 watt bulb. At 8 - 10 inches from it there is no issue with heat.
With no heat issue is 12" from the canopy to close to the plants

I'm far from a kid but new to growing. I'd never heard of bleaching so you've taught me something. I guess I was speaking in terms of CFL's. As far as bad taste in sneakers, these aren't the worst of what a shoe can be, Google 'what the dunk' and see for yourself. I collect and these are worth a pretty penny now, FYI.

im somewhat new as well, but yea I was growing SOOOO long somedays my tops would be touching the light lol.. then i read up on bleaching.. and yep.. does just as it says, the LUMENS burn your plants leaving bleach looking spots.

12-15" is awesome with a 1000W.
When you put the plants closer you are lowering your direct light coverage while the plants that are really close pump up only the part that is really close.
15" from a 1000W is GREAT and I think its more than enough.

Also, very high light radiation degrades the trichomes. Putting a plant 8" from a 1000W will result in a HUGH bulb of weed that could have been whiter. Theoreticly.

I just looked up bleaching as well. I didn't think that a plant could get too much light but I guess I was wrong. Sorry you learned about it the hard way RawBudzski, but thanks for sharing that with everyone else, I'm sure it'll help some people.

The crazy thing is those 'what the dunks' are worth over a grand now  I would never wear them but would love to have them in the collection.

And McFonz knows his stuff. Maybe it's too early in the morning for me :wall:

most strain build resistance to high light intensities. Thats how a marijuana plant thrives outdoor with reflectors around it.
The magic is introducing the intesity over time and not stressing the plant with it.

You would get light bleaching if you move from low W CFLs to a 400W MH at 15" as well which I grow my 2 week old seedlings at 15-18" away from my 400W.

Ok well maybe thats why my plants diddnt get effected as ere1 online posts about.. .cause from day 1 of veg they were 3-6 inches from air cooled hood Zero Heat. then beginning of flowering 1st 2 weeks was like 1-3 inches from tops. with minor effects, its not 6-8" away and plants are getting fat, Biggest cola almost Coke can width

Oh and funny thing, My shortest plant furthest from the light has its cola and this 1 other branch Fatter than every other plants, Just really dense.. strain determines all :D

I bleached mine and they actually came right back to a dark green once a raised the light. I know all plants are different, my white widow bleached but my bubblicious didn't, go figure.
