No roots in new soil ?

Potted my trees up and added 2inch soil amended ontop soil as well as they was solid roots that was 4week ago
i just dug a hole to the roots to add myko and the roots are not growing into the new soil ? Healthy white plants exploding but why are no roots into the soil ? Normally they would have grabbed it all by now

Have you tried to mulch on top to keep the top layer moist. I was always told the roots travel looking for moisture.

I’d probably try things that may make things worse to remedy. Like letting it go bone dry.. then massively underwater. I wouldn’t recommend anyone else do it though. (Since I can’t recap the outcome)

dont worry about it, it saves you destroyoing the new roots when you dpo another top dressing. i use it more of a new nutrient rich layer for water to wash the nutes out of and down into the lower soil and root system
