Its not the nutrient brand. Believe that. General Hydroponics did have a consistency problem batch to batch years ago....especially in Europe but this has been fixed for a long time now.

i think part of the problem was me not shaking the bottle first and i was super underfeeding them. the NL perked up fully in less than 2 or 3 floods once i put full lucas in the res. still think i have under developed roots though

Sorry to bring wake the dead, but I figured I’d point out that upon closer inspection of the leaves and hydroton, the twisted growth, mottling,damaged fresh growth was actually caused by thrips. I think water stress just allows them to gain foothold. You can finish plants with thrips, but your quality and quantity will suffer. Hit them girls with spinosad if you’re still fighting with them
