Normal for clones?

Hey man thanks for the link!

I actually want to have 2 strains going, so not sure how this would work in that situation? 1 is sative 1 is indica so they would be different sizes. I was planning on having 2 mothers for each and keeping them in veg..
ya you can even do like a little perpetual thing and just keep topping the moms and making a new clone.

one thing about cloning that is crucial that people hardly mention is contact.
there needs to be solid contact between the 45º cut and the medium you're using.

mine usually droop the first 2 or 3 days but perk right back up.

it doesnt really matter where you take the clones from, i hear people sayin the bottom because its closer to the roots and easier to get roots. but i have the same success rate no matter where i take the cutting from.

Also does anybody have any tips for using coco plugs to clone?

Do they have to be soaked in 5.5 ph water for 24 hours like rockwool? Or can water just be dumped on them before taking the cuttings? Does the water have to be warm?

I have a bunch of coco plugs that were thrown in with the dome I bought so I would like to use them... If rockwool is that much better I will just go buy some of that though

Yeah I have accepted the fate of these clones, going to try it again tomorrow. I'm not sure what I did so wrong, everything I read explains how easy cloning is and sofar I have had a 0% success rate after 2 tries. I'm hoping its because of the medium I was using (soil) and that I have better luck with either coco or roockwool..

Here's a pic of the coco plugs. I have a whole bunch of these so hopefully they will work?
Bix - I have had great success using coco pellets although this tutorial shows Rockwool just replace the rockwool with the coco pellets the method is exactly the same:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tools & materials required:
Seedling tray/clone box with bottom heating (heating mat optional I don't use one personally)
Sharp knife or safety blade
Rooting Hormone or gel (Clonex works great)
Spray bottle
Small rockwool cubes or coco pellets

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1) With a sharp blade cut a growing tip from the plant. Make sure you don't cut the cutting too short, you need 2-3 leaf nodes for a good cutting:

2) Trim off the lowest pair of leaves close to the main stem, as shown in images below:

3) Make a 45 degree cut near the bottom on the main stem just below the node where you trimmed the leaves off in step 2. The cut needs to be at an angle just below the leaf node to create the maximum amount of surface area for new roots to grow:

4) Dip the end of the cutting in rooting power or gel and ensure all cut areas are completely covered with powder or gel. Gently tap off any excess powder:

5) Soak a small rockwool cube or coco pellet in water and make a hole about 25mm (1/2 inch) deep into the cube with a match. Make the hole just a little smaller than the diameter of the main stem of your cutting if possible; you want a reasonably snug fit for the cutting

Now gently insert the cutting into the cube far enough to cover the area where you cut off the leaves. About 25 mm:

6) Now place the cutting in your seedling tray or clone box, mist the cuttings with water using a spray bottle and also mist the inside lid of your clone box. Place the cover on, plug in the bottom heater if you have one, and you're done.

Check the cuttings every day and pour a little water over the rockwool cubes / coco pellets if they begin to dry out. Do not fill your clone box with water, just pour enough on the cubes/pellets to re-soak them to prevent drying out. You will probably have to do that every 2 days.

Mist the cuttings and inside cover of your clone box every few days with a spray bottle or whenever you see the water droplets disappear from the inside of the cover:

7) After about a week to two weeks you should see roots growing out of the rockwool cubes/coco pellets like in the image below. You now have a clone of your original plant that is ready for planting.

Hope this guide has helped!

Thanks for the help guys/gals.

I can't get the coco plugs to do what they say in the pictures (they say to just add water and it should expand to fill one of the tray slots, that doesn't happen for me??)

So I'm going to buy some rockwool cubes and give it another go either tomorrow or Wednesday.

Wish me luck!! :D

Took some new clones tonight!!

Feel much better about this batch just by putting them into rockwool and scraping off some additional stem near the bottom before dunking them in the rooting gel.

Hopefully third time is a charm!!

They look great bro! Be patient and let them do their thing, try not to mess with them too much. Mist them once in the morning and once at night. I'll bet they all root in 7-14 days!

HAhahaha, oh my god this thread. Okay so "the one in the back looks pretty fucked" hahahhaha wow. Those are dead, when you initially cut your plants you did't trim your leaves, did you cut your clones with a clean razor? You are supposed to have cut those sets of leaves so that the leaf shape is no longer like fingers, but more resembling a circle. Good luck with your next cloning!

Alot of people do this and for different reasons but there really is no need. I don't cut the leaves back and get the same results, once the clones growing it will rely on those fan leaves to get its energy.
