Northeast growing questions

After experiencing a pretty dismal rookie grow season last year I've realized I need more knowledge from experienced growers, I've done a far amount of research in the past weeks but I still have some questions that I was unable to find a clear answer and solution to, I'm very to cultivation so I would appreciate any tips/additional information that may be helpful.

I'm in New York at around 43N latitude, conditions are high humidity (70-95%) , temperature early in the season (late April - May is high 50s - 60s) , June - august (high 70s, 80s most days, 90s here and there) once sept hits , temp will steadily drop until frost dates around beginning to mid October.

Major problems I experienced last year:
1) nitrogen deficiency - leaves where turning yellow, dying and falling off (believe this is N-deff?)
2) mold due to humidity
3) bugs / spiders eating holes in leaves
**4) EXTREMELY slow grow rates, any specific nutrients or things I should do to assist this would be ideal

another thing is I am indecisive about a good strain for my area, strains I have contemplated this year are: afghan strains, northern lights, OG (all sativa dominates , 90-10 / 80-20
-by my research these are some hardy strains when it comes to mold/pest resistance, correct or incorrect? What strain would you suggest

Open to any help, suggestions - Lets not beat around the bush , I know I'm a amateur don't need you to tell me that, willing to listen to anything a experienced grower has to say

Links to articles or websites are also appreciated, thanks

I'm in NY around the 42N lattitude.
Are you growing in the ground or in pots?

It is normal for leaves to yellow up and die off as fall approaches

Mold due to humidity; Well, you can't control humidity outdoors. You plant in an area that gets morning sun and good air flow.

Bugs: Try neem oil

Strains; Look for short flower times that are mold and frost resistant

fellow NYer here, Mold is always gonna a possible issue especially in late flower, all you can really do is keep a good eye out for it as conditions arise, and cut off affected growth before it spreads. spiders and bugs, Ive never personally found to be a big issue, the bugs snacking on your leaves isn't a huge deal, budworms can pose some plant damage but again I haven't experienced problems with them. I never spay anything, sure I may find the occasional small bug trapped in the sticky resins of my plant, but my shit aint going to a top notch dispensary, and smoking a few bugs here and there doesn't bother me. as for slow growth you didn't mention any soil you used, if you just stuck them in the ground and did nothing else than that's most likely your problem, and/or lack of sun. as far as strains anything finishing in 8-10 weeks, cant really give you any names as Im am usually just planting bagseed that may be your best route being a beginner, for some reason ppl are now under the impression they cant have a successful grow without ordering seeds. probably 10 or more different breeders for popular strains like northern lights, all having varying phenos. northern lights from breeder A could be quite different from breeder B's NL. or you could riecieve 4 different pheno's from breeder C all growing into very different plants(of course this wouldn't be a well reputed breeder, but those guys are out there)so keep that in mind,

My conditions are very similar to yours, in Northeast Massachusetts at 42N. If you want sativa dominant strains try Mandala #1 and Early Durban. If you want hybrids or indica dominants I can suggest other strains. I start my plants indoors from seed the first week of May and set them out the first week of June.

I grew many crops at latitude 40.5 in the NE US
I found that more sativa type buds fare much better.
Tight, dense buds are generally much more susceptible to bud rot.
Skunk#1 and crosses did well for me...NLxHaze also.
AK-47 was the worst, and caused me much heartache.

last year was a pretty decent year too. no monsoon rains or hurricanes really. I had a lot less mold than usual...... also interested in what type of soil you used.
