Trainwreck is unique in appearance, in my experience.

The closest strain in appearance I've seen was a plant I cloned through nineteen generations, before losing it.

This was a stick Thai that came from a QP of Thai stick a friend brought back from Vietnam in '74.

A ripe Trainwreck strongly resembles that plant.

The plant looks grayish due to the densely packed trichomes, and is very spindly.

I picked through seven pounds of trimmed bud once, and the largest bud was less than two grams.

This strain tends to produce half gram nugs all along each stem, but never solidly.

Be ready to give the plant lots of support because it is always too heavy for its slender stems.

Be very careful not to force it into bloom, prematurely.

Trainwreck takes a long time to reveg.

Nice man...Can't wait to see what your trainwrecks do. Have you heard of trainwreck flowering differently than most other strains? Maybe that's just with Green House Seed's Train Wreck, I'm not sure.
I havn't heard of it flowering any different. This is a strain that all I know is its trainwreck. I'm going to flower some soon indoors so I can compare to what I get outdoors should be fun

Hey man I'm playing the same soil game having to bring it in one backpack full at a time. I feel for ya, haha. I dug pretty big holes. Not quite as big as yours, but they still need a lot of dirt and a lot of trips. I seriously underestimated how much it would take to fill even a medium sized hole and need almost TWICE as much soil as I originally planned. Rookie mistake I guess.

I'm going with the Botanicare line too. So far the plants are loving it. I'm not sure what the shelf life of the stuff is, but I bought a quart of the grow formula and don't think I'll even come close to using it all. I might just amend the grow with some P during flower to try to use it all up this season. Don't really like being wasteful. Did you use Botanicare last year?
Yep one backpack full at a time sucks. I'm now making my holes about two and half feet wind by about 2 feet deep. Its seems wider is better than a deep hole that is not very wide. I'm getting better at packing the soil in the backpack as I fill it up. You can get quite a bit more in there. I have been using left over botanicare from last year with no problem. Last year I used the liquid Karma (get some if you don't already),pure blend pro grow cal/mag and sweet. Then switched to grow to the pure blend pro SOIL bloom. I can't complain with the results I got. When you buy them get the bigger bottles if you can they last way longer for your money.

Thanks for the info i'm already planing on taking some bamboo out there in the future or just make my own from around the patch. Thats sucks you lost strain you held on to for so long I'm sure a lot of people would like to try a strain like that with some history behind it.

Yeah you can fit quite a bit. I have a separate bag that I pack it in tight first then squeeze it into my backpack. Still kinda worried about the nosey neighboors. Once I went out around 11pm and stashed a big bag about 50 feet up the path, but I knowing my luck someone will be looking out their window or something.

Yeah, it flowers like veggiegardner described. Just be ready for it. It can throw out a bunch of slinder branches and instead of the calyxes going up the stems and connecting, it kind of just throws out big calyx clusters everywhere. There's no huge donkey dick buds that you see in most plants. Just a BUNCH of calyx clusters up and down the stalks. Like veggie said, be sure to support those things. You might want to take a look at the GHS trainwreck grow and see what they had to do. Its killer bud though. I hope my coletrain is mostly trainwreck, although I do like silver haze (i'm just looking for something a little more indica). I'm thinking it will be, the seedlings have very, very fat leaves. Good luck with all your prep work.

Nice sunny weather today. Brought the third plant out today that is a mystery strain. It's not growing well but I figured I would see how it grows outside. If its not going well I'll just pull it. I have seven more trainwreck clones waiting to root so trying to get the holes ready for next week. Got a picture of my water source that is less than a minute away. Its great last year was hell hauling all the water. I fed the girls for the first time since being outside and they seemed to like it. Its been cold till today and I can tell they liked it with new growth. Just more work to be done but after that I can just walk in go fishing and not much work to do on them. Cant Wait!

Here are some update pics. They liked the last couple sunny days. The small mystery strain clone looks ok. if it doesn't take off in the next week or so I'll pull it and put something else in that hole. Two deer were bedding down about 20 feet from them when I walked in scared the shit out of them lol. I'm still just hauling in soil almost every day to get ready for clones that should root anytime now. I have two more holes ready for a total of five so far. Lot of work but good times. At least I go fishing every time on the way back. I caught a 15inch trout thats the biggest so far.

Thanks I know all the work will pay off. Got one clone in soil today so im just working on prep for this batch of clones when there ready to go outdoors.

Haha, yeah I had a few beers in me on Saturday and was feeling adventurous after I left the bar so I ended up taking two plants out around 1am. Probably not the smartest thing doing this kind of stuff when you're a little juiced up, but it worked out. Just checked them today and they are doing good considering all it did was rain for the past week. Need some suna already! At the end of March when I first started digging holes it was 80 degree and I was sweating my ass off. Now I got some in the ground and its in the 50's and 60's and nothing but rain. Hopefully I can get the final two out tonight or tomorrow.

Hey man how are you getting such good branching? Did you top those two plants in those past couple pics you posted? I have plants that were out for a few weeks now and it just seems like they are growing up rather than out, ya know? I wanted them bushy like yours. I got pics in my journal in my sig. I dunno, maybe the sun isn't strong enough yet and with the cloudy weather they are stretching. The stems are still nice and thick though.

I was reading some of your earlier posts about that plant you had from 1974. Thats crazy! Too bad you lost it. Probably never get a strain like that again unless you fly to Vietnam and roam around the jungle for a few weeks. Did you ever see those Strain Hunter videos from Greenhouse? That's kind of what they did. I forget which strains, but they were in Africa and India and brought some native strains back untouched.

The plants I have out there were toped as clones when I got them from a friend. I'm curious how they will grow being two main branches from the start. I'm no pro at topping by any means. Last year my biggest plant was never topped at all and I got over a pound off it so I would say try a few different techniques on similar plants and see what gets the best results.

That old strain was from a different poster on here. Never seen that strain hunter would be a cool job or what lol.

I did a couple trips to my patch last year when I was pretty tipsy it was fun at the time but the next day I thought a little differently. Its been raining here quite a bit also with a few short sun breaks. I need to get all the holes ready for my clones soon. I have one in a party cup with probably two more by tomorrow. Four more after that which should start showing roots any time now like the others. Got some work to do when the weather clears up soon. Sooner than later I hope!!

Just got back from the patch. Looking good so far. A lot of new growth more than I expected with all the rain and not much sun we have had. Its supposed to rain the rest of the week so I might take a few more clones out today or tomorrow as I have two more holes ready for planting. Not sure what to do with the small mystery strain plant. Its growing just very slow compared to the train wreck. You guys think I should pull it and plant some another trainwreck clone? I think Ill give it a little longer as the new growth looks healthy just not much of it. Some good sunshine wouldn't hurt either. Here are a few pic's

A few words about Trainwreck.

The type Trainwreck I have is Called E32. There are no seeds for this strain.

A friend who passed on last year selected the original E32 from a field of hybrids in Humboldt County in '82. It has been cloned continuously since that time.

Any true breeding Trainwreck seeds have other genetics besides E32, but I've been told a few of these are pretty close.

The E32's mother strain was a Thai.

The Father was a cross between Mexican and Colombian sativas.

E32 is 100% sativa.

E32 finishes much earlier than you'd expect.

Indoors, using CO2, it can finish in 42 days.

It is done as soon as all the trichs are cloudy. For E32 Trainwreck, amber trichs are counterproductive. The high is best before amber appears.

Regarding site preparation.

YOU GUYS ARE KILLING YOURSELVES!

Others may disagree but I believe a hole need not be deeper than a foot. If I were doing it, I'd dig my holes about eight inches deep by two feet wide,

AND THEN,

Turn over the bottom of the hole, another eight inches deep.

And then,

Add a few shovel fulls of potting mix, and turn the bottom again.

And then,

Fill the hole up with your potting mix.

If a bag of potting mix isn't quite enough, you can use leaf mulch from around your grow to fill in the hole, keeping it a few inches from the plant's stalk. Mulch another foot or two beyond the edge of the hole to encourage worms and root spread.

Have fun!

Thanks for stopping in and the tips. I have thought about mixing with the native soil. Its feels like sand but as you can see from the pictures everything grows healthy around my plants. Its not to far from a river and I hit river rock anywhere from 6 inches down to 2 and 1/2 feet so I just use the deeper spots. When I dig I come across a lot of worms which I like to see. I'll experiment with mixing in the lower parts of the holes I dig to save some soil.

Took two more clones out today in between the rain showers I got soaked and muddy but wanted to get it done. The sun came out for a few when I was there so I took a few pics. I have five out there now so I need to get more holes ready by hopefully next week. I think I'm going to put out five more for a total of ten. :hump:

I got one more hole ready today. I tried a new technique for the soil. I dug down about a foot then loosened up the soil down another foot or so then mixed in some roots organics soil with the native soil. Then I filled up the rest with just my soil I packed in. I'll do this for 4 or 5 more holes. Its saves a lot of soil! Ill see how this works as they grow compared with the other plants with all new soil as they all grow. I'm trying to get 3 more holes prepped by the end of the weekend and bring in 4 more clones that are ready to plant. In the last picture should scoop up this clone and bury it deeper? There is some small growth at the bottom that is flimsy so not sure if I should let it grow or bury that long stem?? Its only been there for 2 days. Any input would be great and some rep
