I was thinking of using a 1" layer of sand on top of the soil as a gnat controller. Has anyone tried this with success?

might want more Peralite and maybe a compost bottom layer like steer manure or sheep. blood and bone meal are good additives for organic basics

Thanks bud. Compost Im using is rich in manure. I've got blood meal and bone meal left from making super soil. If I was to topdress in those 10 gallon bags, what would be a good amt. for each?

I've only read bits a pieces of teaming with microbes from posts in all sorts of threads hear and there. By all the recommendations it gets I'd say it's a must read for me.
Glad to hear you're having good luck with organics. I am also using kelp, hydrolyzed fish and molasses in my compost tea. How much blood meal would you recommend for top dress in 10 gallon container?
Thanks

well just to be clear i would only use it if you see N deficientcy..i only use 2 gallon plant warrior pots and top dress with about a half tsp...not much and water it down...wouldnt see it being a whole lot diff with 10 gall pots..the plant seems to recover quickly from this method

Glad to see more people experimenting with organics! I'm just doing my first grow with organics myself and am very impressed with the results so far. I'm almost 6 weeks into flower, have only used water, and the plants all look fantastic! A worm bin is good advice. The humus in my mix comes from my compost bin which is basically just a mix of kitchen scraps and shredded leaves from last autumn. I've always just shoveled that mix into my vegetable garden once a year and its full of earthworms by the time I get around to it. I've always had such good results with my veggies that I figured this year I'd research indoor organics a bit and do a run with my medicinal plants. I can honestly say I doubt I'll be going back to fox farms! I'll be following along to see how things turn out for you.

Grow area was getting pretty dry from winter weather and the wood stove. Did a foliar spray with plain water. Humidity is below 40% sometimes, so may need humidifier.

I'm having a similar issue as I also have a wood stove and have been burning it pretty much non stop for a few weeks now. I had a small fish tank in the tent at one point but it got a bit crowded in there so I had to take it out. I've been riding around 20 percent since :/

Making 15 gallons of aact. This is what I use:

About 5 cups quality vermicompost
1 cup of my soil mix
1cup compost from my yard
1/3 cup liquid kelp
1/3 cup liquid fish
1/3 heaping cup molasses

The girls finally settled into their soil. They stalled for about a week after transplant but have grown a lot in the last few days. Humidity is LOW so I've been spraying the leaves with water every day. I just mulched with the coast of maine stuff but it'll be the last time as the stuff is costly. Once the worm and compost bins are going I'll be using that as a top dress any way.
