These are the strains i have started in the past month. I'm a little concerned as i went feminized and i know there are risks of hermaphroditism - so hopefully the seed-banks that made them knew what they were doing. Incidentally - the strains/banks are as follows:
-Flo - Dutch Passion
-NYC Diesel - Dinafem
-Violator Kush - Barneys Farm
-Kandy Kush - DNA/Reserva Privada
-White Widow - From Clone, but smells and grows with WW traits...so whatever the parent strain, its the real deal.
Any advice/knowledge on these strains from these companies would be greatly appreciated.
I should take a moment here to say that this is not my first grow - i grew several years ago with my roommate and we pulled down 3 harvests. This is, however, the first grow i'm doing alone, and the first grow i'm doing with a large investment in the gear that i have researched and determined to be best cost/performance ratio. Here they are:
-Grow Tent - Flowering: 2x4x5; Veg: 2x2x5
-Lights: Flowering: 1 400w HPS, 1 UFO (630 nm red), 3 small LED spot-bulbs all 630nm red strung through the middle of the base of the room pointing up at the canopy; Veg: 1 90w blue/white UFO and 2 2' CFL, 1 on either side facing horizontally.
-1 Ebb&FLo 8-spot hydro kit from Botanicare/American Agrotech (flowering)
-4 Plants in 2 gallon hort-bags (flowering)
-Soon to be 6 plants in the veg chamber, all mothers.
-1 charcoal filter, 2 duct fans sucking hot air from top of tent out, 1 air-circulation fan (flowering)
-
(I'm probably forgetting some stuff but i will attach pictures)
Nutrients
-Flowering: Hydro holds 4-6 gallons. I usally split which nutrients i use half/half: the hydro-kit came with Botanicare Grow, Bloom and Base. It also came with a small thing of 'Liquid Karma' (which i like so far as a catalyst). Separately and for my organic plants, i bought FloraNova Grow/Bloom. I also have OMRI Alaska Fish Fertilizer for boosting growth w/ extra nitrogen, Lilly Miller Vita-Start Transplanting Fertilizer w/ B1, and of course, pure B1.
Does anybody have any info on that Liquid Karma stuff? Because I think I like the Flora Nova over the Botanicare tri-nute system I can always buy a Base or Transition phase nutrient additive separately. Am I mistaken in my opinions about the Nutrients? Please - any and all advice is encouraged!
The setup is like this: there are two closets in my room, I live in a basement in the North-Western united states, so its very cold right now - making things a lot easier (and a BIG change of pace from my previous grows which were in sweltering Los Angeles)! The smaller closet is the veg room: the tent I described is on its way but not installed yet and you will see my makeshift tent of tarp in the included pictures. The veg room is simple: thats where the mothers will grow. Right now I am taking clones of the strains I have and intend on turning them into mothers. I have had a LOT of trouble with cloning, and have for the moment reverted back to leaving the lower stem in a solution of mild nutrients and root hormone. I am building a bubble-cloner and we will see how that works. In the flower room, there are 8 spaces in my hydro-kit; four of which are currently occupied by bag-weed Af-Gooey - which I am NOT cloning for obvious reasons. The next four are empty but I am sprouting Kandy Kush right now - intend to veg four for a week and then into flowering: the yeild will be small but I can grow a mother and a super-cropped organic one with the other two seeds I have in the meantime. I try to super crop all my plants using a combination of staking, tying, Modular SCROGs, and breaking the husk to pinch of nutrients and delay growth so the other branches become just as big.
Any advice on Cloning for me? Not the obvious stuff - the little things that forget to get mentioned but are oh-so important!
The other half of the grow tent is occupied by 4, well spaced 2 gallon horticultural-bagged organic plants. These are my babies: Flo, Violator Kush, WW and Diesel! They are bushy and growing nicely into the mod-scrog.
Currently, the heater in my hydro bucket is making the water a steady 85 degrees f! I know 90+ can kill plants, and 75 is optimal Im going to try and get a cooler one in exchange but until then - would it be better to just remove it and let the water be too cold than too hot? The plants are used to the water being colder - I only JUST got the heater.
I am literally in the process of force-flowering right now. I have gone from 6-8-10 hours of dark, and tomorrow will go the whole 12/12. I expect my plants - especially the sativa ones - to at most DOUBLE in height (I like to think worst-case scenario cuz I would BARELY have enough room if they fully double but it could be done)!
Ive been hearing about this 1-month harvest thing through some of George Cervantes stuff that from rooted-seedling/cutting, you veg for 1 week under 24 light w/ heavy nutrients and training/super-cropping, then let it flower for the next 3 weeks. I think this might be optimal for my Hydro-Kit which is obviously designed for a SOG setup - but I vegged the Afgooeys almost a month and they are UNRULY! I can barely see the other half of the tray because they have grown out so far! So perhaps faster-run/smaller yield JUST for the hydro kit would be better? Thoughts?
I intend to always let the organic ones veg for at least a few weeks so I can REALLY super crop them. I love the way they look right now check out the pix and tell me what you think!
Okay, I think thats more than enough for now - to make it easier, heres a review of the questions I asked:
