Note staining or root rot?

Root rot or nutrient staining?

Geez. Every day I check my roots and up until today they were perfectly white, I came home from work and checked the roots and two of the plants have brown roots starting.

There is no odor and the individual root strands look healthy and the plants seem happy still but I can't be sure.

I use subculture b and tons of air in my rez and I'm only a week in. Is this rot? 20170203_001220.jpg

I'm not sure what it is. It only affects the roots actually touching the nutrient film. Roots not in the film stay white and healthy. It doesn't stink and it doesn't seem to be spreading.

I tug gently and the roots seem strong as well. But the plants show just the most minor of nutrient deficiency though I can't be sure if that is my formula or due to pathogen.

Other than that the plant seems healthy and green and robust and growing well too. I am monitoring it closely but I am stumped.

General hydroponics Maxi grow. 2 tblspn per gallon and subculture b. Nothing else.

I always used bubble buckets. First time with nft I feel like newb again. Lol

I guess there is nothing to be done but continue to change the rez water regularly and monitor the situation. It's possible a pathogen attempted to colonize and the plant is fighting it off.

You might be burning them roots. 2tsp/gal of the maxi should be like 3.6EC. That is crazy high. 1.8 is the max I've ever done/needed. What are the ppm's doing in the Rez? I would imagine it keeps climbing and climbing?

Do you have pics of the plant? Rot will at first look like a def. with leaves turning light tan at the tips first, they will also get kind of wrinkly .

That settles the debate then. The bottom leaves have yellow spots and are wrinkly.

Assuming it is rot what are my options?

I can cut off the infected roots. There are a good five inches of healthy root from the crown.

I can keep changing rez, keep using subculture b, and hope for best.

Question is, could my flow not be deep/wide/fast enough? It's on a 300 GPh pump.

What's your water temp? I use hydroguard and chilled res water for the win. Before the chilled water I struggled with root issues like yours, plants were growing just not thriving. I have a flood and drain type setup with water fountain effect so lots of DO. I actually had the worse case of rot using an EWC tea but my root chamber got up past 75.

I wouldn't touch the roots, just try to get them healthy. Again I'm kind of a newb so probably not the only person you should listen to lol. You could also try a sterile res but I found hydroguard better than bleach and H2O2
