OK SO AWHILE AGO I POSTED A THREAD STATING I WAS GONNA CUT UP MY PLANT BECAUSE I HEARD THAT WHILE FLOWERING IF YOU CUT OFF THE FAN LEAFS AND EVERYTHING THAT DOESNT OR ISNT GONNA GROW A BUD THE PLANT IS USE MORE ENERGY TO MAKE BIG BUDS.

MOST OF YOU SAID IT WAS NOT A GOOD IDEA. BUT HERE IS THE THING MY FRIEND WHO ALSO GROWS DID IT. AND SAID HE HAS BEEN DOING IT FOR YEARS. SO ANYWAYS HE SAYS A COUPLE WEEKS INTO FLOWERING WHEN THE PISTILS START TO GROUP TOGETHER IS WHEN YOU CUT THE LEAFS OFF. WELL I AM NOW AT HIS HOUSE CHECKING OUT ALL HIS PLANTS AND THEY ARE JUST BEAUTIFUL.

SO REALLY WHATS THE DEAL HERE?

Leaves contain the the light sensitive pigment called chlorophyll, When light hits this, it goes through many scientific equations to turn out into ATP and NADPH, which is energy all cells use. And another set of reactions for it to turn into glucose (sugar), sucrose (another sugar), and starches.. these can be stored by the plant and used as needed for a higher source of energy. I could get deeper into this but it is not needed, so basically the more leaves you have , the more energy, sugars, starches, water holding ability. Why do you think it grows these in the first place?

i stand by what i always say... those leaves serve two purposes... 1)solar panels for photosynthesis and 2)storehouses for nutrients... if you dont want that well.....

Yea well i think what your saying makes more sense then when my friend explains it to me. The whole cutting thing. Well thanks you guys. Good lookin out.

Ok well ill try for him. How he trys to explain it is that if your plant is giving out 100% of energy to 100% of the plant it will grow nicely but if you cut the excess leafs and stems you dont need making the equation giving 100% energy to only 75% plant then the energy starts to be used more effectivly through out the whole thing.....thats not exact words of what he says but close.

it sounds like your friend is doing a lollypop method or single cola method, i'm a little iffy on the terms there, but i believe there is a slight difference. Now if he is, hes doing something like this

https://www.rollitup.org/hydroponics-aeroponics/6592-get-harvest-every-2-weeks.html

Scroll down till you see the first real marijuana plant, which is like 2inches down, then read the paragraph right above it. THERE IS A CATCH. This guy is growing a crap ton of these little guys. It's not really a good idea to to trim leaves because the plant is using them, else it would literally kill them. It's call nature, it's cool like that. When you grow a bunch of this little guys using a single cola method, you not only trim leaves, but branches too. But you still avoid trimming during any flowerng phase because you want the plant to make buds when flowering, not repair

That is the only accepted method of extreme trimming I know of...

yes but, single cola plants are designed to be only as tall as light can penetrate. Which at a rate of 50% diminishing every 12", at 3 feet down you would have only 12.5% of the your light hitting whatever is there. Not to mention i believe leaves aborb 15% of the light that hits them. So at 3 feet down it's got leaves in the way too.

And when i say single cola, i mean, it focuses on one single bud period. The link i sent you shows a plant with only 2 buds on the entire thing. One at the top, one about 1/2 down, and the bottom 3rd of the plant is barren with no side branching. Such a plant will only yield you a 1/2. If you arn't growing a bunch of them this way, it's not very effective. So it's not a good style to grow unless you are set up for it...which is a SoG design, like the link a sent.

thats exactly what i was just about to say, so +rep to u. It sounds like the guy is lollipopping his plants, n yeah it IS an efficient way to grow if your growing from clone, and doing 12/12 as soon as the clones take root. It helps with quicker harvests, and the lollipopping helps the plant concentrate all of its energy on growing out just the one main cola. So yeah its a good idea if you just want one bud on your plants, but if you want other buds to grow on your shit, then keep the other leaves around - their essential for producing bud, just like everyone else will tell you.

I'm playing with trimming the lower branches, but leaving the lower fan leaves.

Food factories down low, but bud(s) up top.

i think you are past a "lollypop" grow at this point bro.... as they were saying, it is an efficient method for growing from clones directly to flower, but....
