And you seem to be confused about your water. Spring water is just that. Not run through an RO. RO water that you buy at the store is usually listed as "drinking water" Your "Spring" water, if it has minerals in it, does not have an EC of 0. Some spring water is actually way high in disolved solids and bad for growing. Better check it out...

buy the 5 gallon jugs they have in the plumbing dept. they are way cheaper than the culligan ones at the water dispenser.

Just to keep an update. The plant that had the root growing, probably (at least) doubled in size!! The other plant I still have not seen any root growth. EC remains at 0.4. Fingers are crossed.

excellent. keep us posted on how they are doing and keep top feeding the one that doesn't have any roots out yet. the one that does have the root in the water, stop top feeding that one to force it to search out water.

Update:
The plant that was growing roots, is growing a whole bunch more. I think the top will start to look better once I up the nutes. EC remains at 0.5, PH all good and water temp is good.
The second plant (the one without roots) is not showing any roots yet. I am getting worried about her. I put a top feed onto it to help promote the roots. I have not lost hope for that one, but it is fading. I am going to continue with this set up for the next couple days, then a water change. I may keep the EC around the same, but I am wondering if I should cater to the plant that is doing well?

Liquid Kelp is great for developing new roots.

Only have Tap water that has been sitting with air stones to remove chlorine. Hopefully that does not screw things up. My last grow I used 2 buckets with 3.5 gallons in each. I was using bottled spring water for those. Now 17 gallons is too much for bottled.

Tap water is fine, if you can drink it, so can your plants
if your worried about chlorine, which you shouldn't, simply fill a 5 gallon bucket and let it sit overnight and it will have dissipated.

I am losing hope in the first plant. No roots at all and it is looking pretty sad. When do I pull the plug on it? Do I just keep everything the way it is? do a water change with the same amount of nutrients? or do I get another plant? Trying to be patient..........

is the top feed running 24/7 on the bad one?

and like jypsy said, a bit of kelp would help too. or even some superthrive which you can find at walmart. just a drop or 2 of it.

don't sacrifice the good one for the bad but also don't give up on her just yet.

Yes, I was running it 24/7. I will look into the kelp. When do you know the plant is beyond repair?

when it's deader than shit. lol. you'd be surprised how tough this plant is.

can you put a pic of the bad one up?

and remind me, are these 2 separate dwc grows or is the res for both plants?

Ha! I figured I would know when it dies. I am having trouble putting pics up. I will continue to try though. I have one res (~15 gallons of water in a 27 gallon tote).

heeres something to think about for now and future:

buy a 5 gal bucket black if possible, a cheap air pump and airstone and tubing from walmart.

that way you can take out the unhealthy plant for a few days and baby it in it's own res and not worry about messing up the healthy one. for probably 20 bucks total, it would be a good investment

for this case, i'd run even less than 0.5 EC, some kelp, some superthrive and see if you can bring her back to life.

My first grow I used two five gallon buckets. I just need to clean them up and I am good to go. I think I like this thought. Something to think about........

i'd go for it. the worst that will happen is it dies. the best is it lives and the other plant is not affected and it joins the healthy one in a week or so.

and you could even get root rot from the dying plnat which could spread to the good one too.
