Nug density in a 400 watt HPS 4x2x5 SCROG.

Anyone have experience in running a tent with a 400 watt hps air cooled in a 4x2x5 tent? What kind of nug density am I looking at? Did a search and couldn't find anything really specific so I started my own thread. Let's see some 400 watt 4x2x5 grow tent set ups.

I just got a tent that size not two weeks ago so I'd have a place to veg some plants while I flower a couple bigger ones out in the main grow room.

I'd find it an awkward sized tent to use one of my 400s in. A 3x3 or 4x4 would be a better size but it will still work. I bought a small LED light from the same guy and it does one half of the tent nicely. Rated at 1500W but that's BS and I wasn't expecting it to be 1500W worth so I wasn't disappointed. Pulls only 207W from the wall and everything about it no-name including the drivers for the 5 COBs.

Are you tying the branches down to your screen or just going to add another screen when the colas start falling over about week 4 or 5? Those thin looking branches aren't going to hold up much. Did it veg under a 400?

Should get some decent buds with the 400. Lots of my first crops were under the same and all my buddies loved my buds. Rock hard nugs depending on the strain. Now I'm usually flowering under a 600 or 1000W Hortilux SHPS but the bigger ones are vegging now under a 400W CMH that runs off an old magnetic HPS ballast. Nice bulb.

Here's my tent with 9 babies in it. 5 Nepali Temple, (white pots), and 4 - 3:1 CBD/THC called Sebring's Revenge, Patch Adam's S1. All from seed and all regular photo plants so will be seeing some pre-flowers soon I hope or sexing them out. They're about 5 weeks old now. My very first tent so still tweaking the environment but near dialed in. The grow room has climate controllers etc for good flowering but with veg I don't have to be as fussy. Just put them in there two days ago.

I suggest one plant grown in a scrog with a canopy of at least 50% before flip.

Been there, done that. Done that with DWC too and that worked out well.

Its 95% grower skill. 4% genetics. 1% light.

You can spend all the money you want and the equipment will not guarantee nugs.

I run 600mh/hps in a 2x4x7.

I can say for a fact from personal experience you can grow some fucking fluffy shit with 600watts haha.

I grow in a 4x2x7 cabinet in my garage with a 400W MH/HPS. I don’t bother air cooling the light since I’m in growing in a garage in Northern Alberta I actually need the heat. I change the heat of the garage so that the intake air + the heat from the light puts me where I want to be temp wise.

As far as nug density, the last batch I grew was black candy land which is supposed to be mostly sativa. I got one pheno more indica leaning that put out the tightest nugs I’ve ever grown. They were clog the grinder kinda tight. I grew those in 7 gal pots with organic super soil. Pulled 280g dried and cured which is plenty for me.

Currently I’m giving dtw hydro a try and I’m pleased with the results. I’m going with 4 plants in small 3L plastic pots in a mini SOGish setup. Watered for 1 min every 8 hours via cycle timer and cheap irrigation dripper setup. Mega crop nutes and ProMix HP.

I’m really just messing around, I’ve got more bud in jars than I could smoke in 5 years but I enjoy growing it more than smoking it. I make a big batches of bubble hash with old buds I’m sick of and hand out temple balls at Xmas time to friends and family.

This pic is a couple weeks old. I‘ve since changed from MH to HPS after the stretch and lollipopEd them down. 3 Burmese sativa ( might have been labelled wrong, leaves are quite fat) and 1 Lebanese sativa. Those plants are 6 weeks from seed.

Here's an update few days into flowering

You can get them as dense as you want them, as long as you keep canopy Temps in check, lots of space for light to penetrate, good nutrients and flower hardeners, keep your medium damp, and keep the air flowing. If you're using 400w+ in a space like that, your light won't be the reason the buds come out fluffy. And as always, the strain you pick will have a lot to do with it.

question to one extreme of your topic i run a 315 lec in a 32 x 32 cool it with and 8 inch duct fan ported at the bottom.
i do ok with heat i want to grow with with a 400 hps ... Different sun ? then its Alien weed!! to me.

how do you port the heat

You should be porting out the top, not out the bottom. Also I think you're better off with the 315 than the 400.

Don't let the temps get too high and you should have dense nugs. It's a good amount of light for the space.
