Read this thread through again, taking notes so I don't ask so many questions. Epic thread. There's a few references to a Mainlining thread, though I have found none after looking at the old school forum, stickies and a search.

Is there a separate Mainlining thread? I'm going to try this on Plush Berry. I just need shorter containers to get more height. The Smart pots are shorter and wider than the 5 and 7 gallon pails I've been using. What a waste of height in my micro room!

Thanks for inspiring me to try

Well, just finished the Aces Mainlining thread and have three questions if that's OK.

#1 Your tutorial starts of with a small seedling that has been topped. Then two weeks later you cut again. How old is the seedling when you make your first cut? Maybe a week after popping out of the soil?

#2 Looks like you start in tiny Smart Pots, then transplant to a hard pot, then to the final burlap Smartie. I assume the hard sided pot for training helps with training wire attachment points, but I also wonder if there's a way to use some temporary ring or such during training so that you could stay with Smart Pots all the way. Maybe the Smarties are hard to transplant from? I never used them.

#3 Regarding the possible supercropping of the longer branches when you decide which go inside and which go outside the ring, I'm a little vague on that. Do you just pinch the longer branch, bend and wire to the ring to hold / train?

Thanks. Sorry for multiple questions, but that would help me a lot.

Thanks man.

......the first topping is done after early sexing, about 20-24 days after pop.

......you can use velcro for bondage with smarties....thet are kind of a drag to transplant out of though......

......the center colas will almost always get a little taller, so those are the ones you can lead to the outside of the ring(to make the shorter), or super-crop them so the outside colas can catch up (which is what i prefer) it usually only takes one round......hope this helps.....nugs

#1 The very first cut is 20-24 days after popping the seeds? Wow, I had that all wrong. You don't top or otherwise do anything to them for 3 weeks?

See post #102 on this page: https://www.rollitup.org/subcools-old-school-organics/517798-main-lining-ace-spades-tutoral-11.html That first pic shows that two weeks prior, the first cut was made.

From Posts 2 and 3:
......i am going to test my theory on these two ace ladies......hope to have you follow along in real time.....
....as you can see, i clipped out the main....about 3-4 nodes worth, like Sub just did on those babies of his...... i left a lower node for now...they will be my two clones....so down to only two nodes....the clone node, and the main hub.
Doesn't seem that two weeks earlier that plant was 3 weeks old. I'm thinking this is just me...

#2 Smart Bags suck to transplant with. OK. Makes sense, as I suspected. Thanks

#3 I guess I'm still not clear...sorry(!)... on the supercropping part. I've looked at a couple of supercropping videos and they describe quite a drop in the bud. They do the bend quite far down on the stem. In my mind that would take a bud that's just a little taller than the others and make it considerably shorter than the others. Do you do the bend quite far up the stem, maybe?

That's it. Thanks.

That's it. Thanks.
yep, just a simple pinch and bend....i usually do up to three/four a day if needed.....

Thanks mucho. Do you pinch and bend up high on the branch to drop the overall height just a bit? To make the tall ones just even with the short ones?

So three weeks after seeds pop you do the first cut (like Subcool does), then two weeks later you transplant into a hard pot and start training for three more weeks. Then flip to 12/12. So total veg is 8 weeks?

yeah, my total veg time is 60-65 days from sprout or cut.

....i usually put the pinch about 4 inches down from the tip...

Well, sorry to say I have no more questions... Thanks for clearing all that up. bongsmilie

I may take 1 gallon pails and drill holes like crazy to approximate the airfow of the smarties. I'm infatuated with your side by side pics on the starting plants in hard pots vs. Smarties. I'm going with 5 gallon Smarties for my SCROG this time (hope that allows for the fade) and would like to see about using them all the way through and avoiding the hard pots while training. Still noodling that one.

Thanks again.
