Nutes

Ok I have been growing soil for years now and just set up to nice aeroponic/dwc systems and can't wait to start. For my soil grows I was using the Fox Farms line of nutrients with no problems and moderate results.
I see that for hydro Gorw Big has a special formula. Has anyone used the regular grow big instead? And what were the effects?
Also is fox farm a decent choice for hydro or should I switch it up? Thanks a lot!

I don't have any experience with Fox Farms in hydro, but I would recommend the Dutch Master Gold line. I've tried AN, GH, and some others, and this is definitely the best out there IMO. It is extremely balanced and includes all 16 macro and micro nutrients your plants need to thrive and avoid deficiencies. Use of the Dutch Master Gold ADD.27 companion products chelates all the nutrients and allows for easy access to your plants roots. You can run this line sterile (Dutch Master Zone) or with the use of bennies, which I also recommend for explosive root growth. Fox farm is very organic based, in dwc this can cause all sorts of problems including fungi growth.

I have heard this before. I am doing an aeroponic/DWC system and plan on changing the water every week or two and flushing system with fresh water. Hopefully this will be enough to prevent algea and fungi from growing.
So does anyone else have any comments on Fox Farm nutes in this type of system. And would is be ok to use the regular Grow Big nutes rather than the hydro Grow Big?

I grew in soil for years and organic for the last 10 switched to RDWC 10 months ago and am a rabid RDWC grower now LOL. started with Canna and then moved to Dutch Master Gold and am pulling down 1/2 # plants all day long, 2 plants under one 1000w. PH is rock solid and my plants love the shit.. My last 3 grows I screwed up the first 10 days of flower but all went well this time and I expect 3/4 # per plant.

Don't use soil nutes in hydro. It's a completely different medium and most importantly, you don't have the biotics necessary to fis mineral nutes for uptake by plants.

Plus the problems with microbial growth and fungus and all kinds of shit. Take others advice. Dwc is not super difficult but it is a far cry from soil, that is for sure.

Dont forget no sediment nutes in aero would be fine in dwc

Not true. Even if there is no sediment, any inclusion of organic compounds can cause the horrendous slime to appear. If you want a successful grow, avoid the slime as much as possible. The other thing to keep in mind is the water temps. Higher temps cause the dissolved oxygen to 'thin out' and foster in anaerobic bacteria (slime). These factors halt root growth and can choke out a plant if not treated. p.s. thanks woodsman.

I keep my ambient temperatures at 75 degrees with an a/c unit as well as my light having an inline fan running through. Do you think that will be "cool" enough to avoid the slime? The only problem is I bought the 5 gallon containers of the fox farm line so I want to find a way to get rid of them before I buy new ones. Hopefully I can find a way to sell them but until then trying to maybe work with them.

Do you use any Dutch Master additives with the Gold series?

What other additives are you using if any?

Any good PK booster like phospho load, big bud, or ginormous would work well. Silica is also nice to stiffen stalks and prevent noob heat stress.
It may sound arrogant but take it easy on the additives till you get a couple grows under your belt and can go cradle to grave without any deficinencies or issues. Additives work great if you have things dialed but there is no magic increase your yield product. It's all about plant health and ENVIROMENT.

Go slow when starting RDWC it is very different in the ability of the roots to uptake food. I run at 1/2 what they recommend for DWC. The R makes a big difference and add to that water running at 61/64 degrees they respond to any changes very fast, in some cases hours. If you check out my current grow I always post pics of my meter readings. I use the following DM products
Gold Flower A&B 40% recommended
ADD.27 Flower 40% recommended
Silica, go easy on this I use 25% of recommended!!
Zone 50% recommended (when I start I put 100% recommended and run for 3 days before putting the plants in.)
Liquid Light
Gold Saturator
Maji-cal or Cal-max 25% recommended

I build from there to get my target PPM and Ph.

#1 rule!!!!!

Don't chase PH, pick a range and stick to it. I use 5.4 to 6.0 if it changes I just top load to get it back. When you have it dialed in you PH and PPM will tell you what to do.

Here is a handy rule of thumb

If your nutes are at 500ppm and two days later there at 350ppm you need to up your ppm! It works like this, change res set ppm at say 600ppm ph 5.9 run for 24hrs, now if you ppm rise and ph drops nutes are too strong. If ppm drops and ph rises, nutes are to weak. But if your ppm and ph are basically stable then you have found the right mix for your plants.




[FONT=&quot] Then when topping off your res use pre mixed nutes to keep it at that level, if it starts to rise or fall adjust top off nutes as needed to bring it back to proper level. This is how I run my system and has worked great for me!
