Nutrient Reservoir Rubbermaid Bulging

I bought a 35 gallon rubbermaid container to use on my 3x3 ebb and flow. Well, as soon as I get about 25 gallons in, the container starts to flex and its actually turning white due to the stress marks its stretching so bad. I tried to put a ratcheting tie strap around it, but it didn't work very well at all. Does anybody have any other ideas or suggestions to make sure this thing doesen't blow out when I put 35 gallons in it.

Is it a roughneck tub? those are strong but will still bulge. you obviously need to make a brace at the top of the tank to keep it from blowing. try this if yoru serious about getting that thing under your 3x3. Get a bolt eye and a washer that will fit around the shaft and will be held back by the nut. make sure the washer is sufficiently large 1 inch at least or larger. If there are only small washers available try doubling up on the washers by choosing a larger washer and put it behind the smaller washer but make sure the smaller washer will not go through the bigger washers hole. Put the loops facing inside the tub, tie some strong nylon rope between the loops and your set. Probably doing 2 braces like that would keep the shape of the tub better.

35 gallons is a lot for a 3x3. I use a 18 gallon and change it out every 2 weeks. But I do think yours will last a little longer.

Well, it takes 11 gallons to fill it up. And when I got it full of plants, I was evaporating 2 gallons a day, hence the reason for the bigger reservoir. The eyebolt idea sounds like a plan, I might also build a wooden frame around it.

Sounds like your growing in the same size as me :), how many plants are you gone fit in there and wtf with the tank ?, I was planning on getting a cheap IKEA plastic one because the rubbermaid are so hard to find here in Sweden and it sounds the IKEA one is just gone burst half full with water

I made a 20 gallon dwc bucket that started to bulge. drained it, wrapped duct tape around it a few times and problem solved!
