NY State patients, according to recently passed legislation, are now legal - but not legal - until the first recreational sales location is opened, at which time they will THEN be able to grow up to six plants, with only 3 mature plants at any given time.
Wait - what?
Of course, red tape is built in so the Gov can say, "See? I made it legal," when clearly it is still not. Nothing has changed, EXCEPT, you can DEFINATELY now walk around with 3 zips of great buds, AND you can distribute as much as you want, just, no more than 3 ounces at a time, you just have to give it away for free, and apparently, can't be the one who grew it because there have been no regulations implemented for cultivation.
If you give anyone 25 grams or less, and take so much as one red cent, or even a cup of COFFEE as a "Thank You," it's a misdemeanor crime carrying a 1 year sentience and a $1,000 fine. Wait, what? Yup. That's the new law.
Any sale of cannabis greater than 25 grams, but less than 4 ounces is a *FELONY* carrying a sentence of 4 years and a $5,000 fine. Hmmmm. But, you can HAVE up to 3 ounces "in public."
The sound of "dumb" is - deafeningly oppressive - still. Ah, what the hell. It's only the quality of life of thousands and thousands of people.
