Hey guys!
Ck and Letstrip - love seeing your girls growing up out in the wild.

My update is a bit of a mixed bag... been about 3 weeks

I found passion vine hoppers EVERYWHERE.

Some of the plants were just covered in them, especially the ones in more shaded areas. I gave all plants a shake to get most of them off and disturb them from feasting on my girls for a while. Next time I go back Ill be armed with a ...
Hey Matt
I also have had vine hoppers and have done two neem root drenches and multiple neem sprays in past three weeks. Hasnt detered them. I have combined spray with pyrthrum. Will let you know how it goes. :)

Yeah pretty happy the sun turned up hah Yea that's sorta what I thought, like maybe the seeds just arent showing up yet but it started putting out nanners quite early then lots in the last week or so.
They can also be barely fertile so they only make very few. Like I've run a wifi and had just 7 nice fat seeds in the whole lot. Will run them someday

Best thing I've tried for them is neem infused coco or watering them several times during growth with some...the spray/drench is not bad..but if you water it in the plant takes it up and it seemed to help. Otherwise you could try buy some predators and release them in the area..if there are plenty to feed on they'll survive for ages and protect you patch/es

Ah true wouldn't be so bad if I got one or two then. Wonder why thy get hardly fertile or not fertile at all?

Matt If that neem and stuff doesnt work and you have to resort to harsh chemicals (last resort) id do it very very soon before flowering starts. But hopefully the neem does the job ha, I wonder if that dead plant was from the hoppers. Had much rain?

Just genetics really..it's kinda the plants last attempt at preserving its genes. In nature this would be at the end of autumn as winter is approaching..since it's the end of the season, having the ability to self pollinate gives the plant the chance to produce offspring despite not having been pollinated by a male..a pretty useful characteristic in nature..not so much for us. Unless you want to self a female..for S1 seeds of a nice cut etc.

Looking at it again I'd really lean towards underwatering being the issue..
Yea I'd really try not to spray with horrible chems..perhaps try some fine netting? just lightly draped over it will help reduce damage.

Pretty cool that they can do that actually, amazing :) Very useful.

Yea like always resort back to the trusty old bong haha
It works well and it's super efficient on the weed but it is a slower process to get high, it's also more of a heady high but the heady high is more intense than a bong. You can always have a bong to have the full effect, though. Big vape hits give you the same punch in the throat feeling as a big hash hit so it's not something that can be done quickly.

It comes in handy and the high is good but it's a long process to set up and vape so the bong always wins for me. When i'm low on weed this will be a lifesaver, efficiency is the main reason i bought it as well.

Well the Neem & Pyrethrum hasn't removed all Vine hoppers. :cuss: I will spray again tomorrow in the hope that it gives the plant a temporary respite and allows it to outgrow the insects feeding demands.

On Another matter I attempted to supercrop my plant and I wished I hadn't. It has taken a week for the plant to recover and it really slowed its growth during this period. I also worry that the wounds in the plants "skin" around the bends makes it more susceptible to insects. The main stem basically snapped, much to my horror. I taped it up with insulation tape, expecting this branch to die off. This morning it was finally standing back up, if a bit crooked

Next time I will stick with simply topping and LST. I would love to hear from anyone else who has done supercropping outdoors. I am growing in pots and watering by hand 2 days on, one day off.

supercropping is great outdoors, All the side branches can and wll become vertical and stretch to decent size. You can even bury the top of a overly tall plant if necessary. They're pretty tough and as long as you don't do it too close to flower they'll bounce back with no issue.
Bugger on the vine hoppers..try fly spray..just try not to get it on the plant ..shake it and then spray them as they fly around. Somewhat last resort but it works.

Just wrap her in electrical tape and dont crop it to intensely :) I cropped my spring outdoor plant and in hours it was starting to rise back up and eventually it was vertical again after a week or two all by itself lol I think its quite strain dependent. Whats strains are you running, any pics?

Thanks guys. :blsmoke: Not sure of the strain but it looks like it is leaning towards the Sativa side. I have had samples of it in the past and the smoke is good. I have got some pics but I am super paranoid about posting them. I will see if I can get them on in the next couple of weeks.

I watered this morning and saw a lot of damage to the lower growth areas with a slimey residue gumming the leaves together. I suspect slugs or snails, particularly as it is in the lower branches only. I am thinking of using some slug slam and top dressing the soil in the pot. I assume being so far off flowering it will be fine. Any experience with slugs and snails and suggestions guys?

Yeah I think if the insects and critters left her alone she would recover nicely from the damage I inflicted. However, those little fuckers are a worry. With regards to the fly spray I believe pyrethrum is an active component in many fly sprays. The one I am using is designed to be mixed with water and other stuff like Neem and can be sprayed on the plant. They reckon once a week but I am doing it every couple of days. I reckon there are so many vine hoppers in the bush that even if I am killing some a new population moves in shortly after. I just want to keep the plant ahead of the game so I can get a decent crop for all the effort :bigjoint:

My experience with slugs/snails is feeding them... Someone's gotta do it... I'm using a variety deterrents this year but if I had the choice, I'd use copper tape around every plant stem because you don't have to worry about replacing slug pellets that dissolve in the rain. It's only cost that stops me from using it. I've heard of people using copper wire which I think works out cheaper but no experience.

Thanks for that. Copper tape, I will check that out :bigjoint:

Heres the purple girl that I did through spring. I took her down about two weeks ago because she started rotting, its a shame I couldn't run it longer and finish it of properly because the weather is killer now. Anyway Ill have some bud pictures soon its curing up now and starting to smell amazing. The nanners must have been sterile because their isnt any seeds? Got 2 oz and 8 grams total but its pretty dry lol Happy with that for an against the season grow :)
