Just checking what you'd do in my situation - prefer sensible answers if possible!
Have been growing from Dutch Passion OB feminised seeds, I had though successfully: all sprouted immediately, took to their environment well, bolted on cue, responded to the change in light/feed etc - on they all came, long white hairs everywhere, on EVERY plant, they all looked right pukka.
Then as they've continued to grow, the one which I pinched out (because it was a bit taller than the others when we went to flowering phase) looked like it was maturing a lot faster.
I assumed this was because it was pinched out. The others had started to have the odd ginger hair, but this one was significantly more orange-haired. But all were swelling out very nicely with juicy buds and vigorous flowering.
I guess I did wonder why they were starting to shed so many of the larger leaves so early on, but then wondered if I was being overly panicky - so assumed it was maybe the new tent environment and strain.
I was surprised at that 7 week stage also that they weren't fatter than I'd been led to believe from pics I've seen. I checked a false seed pod on the pinched plant, but it was full of fluid, nothing else. The other thing I wondered at was the lack of strong smell - but thought maybe that was to come over the 4 weeks left and mabye also because the filter/tent were working well.
So at the end of week 8, I've checked and big shock horror and mortification of embarrassment, they are nearly all full of seed pods - as in actual seeds in them, yet they're also in full flower.
I had made the assumption because they were all feminised seeds, and because they all were sexed and went into flower, that I wouldn't have a problem. As they matured I arrogantly just kept admiring them and watering/feeding them, clearing out the debris etc without scrutinising each and every plant on a regular basis.
I can only assume that one was hermaphrodite and with the fans and the enclosed environment and probably a bit of rubbing against flowers and leaves that a flower or two were male and the whole lot got polinated.
Clearly it's a right cock-up, and I'm looking forward to watching my next season like a frickin hawk. But what would you do - clearly I can't do anything about the seeds, but they are all evidently females. The pinched plant looks nearly ready to harvest, though in theory they've got 2 weeks of flower and a week of flush before harvesting. The rest are pretty much white-haired and glistening (but not overly so).
If I had set out with the intention of growing for seed, then aside from this being an outstanding success, I would wait until the pods were bursting and the brown seeds showing - but to be honest, I'm more interested in the smoke. So if I'm going to lose even more potency by letting them go to full maturity, I'd rather harvest now, pick out the fleshy green seeds and just get right on with the next crop.
Or do you think I should let them go the course for a more mature flavour - with the benefit of getting seeds (or are the seeds for shit because of the potential of carrying a hermaphroditic trait?).
I just think if they're going to be as crap at the end as they are now, then I may as well cut my losses and just get on with the next lot now. But if I can rescue enough smoke to tie my over to the next harvest then I would of course much rather that.
