The media, people/companies that pay for TV ads, and well funded activist groups decide which issues get addressed in the form of new laws. The people who make large campaign donations through lobbyists, hold fundraisers for political campaigns, and the companies that employ the most people get to decide how those new laws are written.

Basically, corporations, religious groups, and lobbyists representing special interest groups run the country at this point.

edit - yes, and China and Saudi Arabia get a say in military/economic policy.

The US government has been replaced with the largest reality TV show ever. However, unlike your typical reality show where participants are voted off for failure or incompetence, they are instead voted into office so that we can all equally enjoy their ignominious influence. bongsmilie
 
Oh FFS! I just saw a video of a Sheriff in Cali saying, "Prop 19 will not pass. If it passes it will not pass" and goes on to say his deputies have been order to enforce the federal drug laws no matter what the people say.
WTF? Now LEO is saying on the record we will go against the people. WTF happened to the old saying, "We don't make the laws we only enforce them"
I can't find the link to the damn video. It was on another MJ site and it has rotated off the top stories.
Maybe someone else has a link.

This country of mine is confused. I need cannabis just to relax, so it doesn't get to me. My state is never going to having a prop 19 on the ballot and not close to ever allowing it for medicinal use. I do not drink alcohol and I do not use pharmies, and that is all my country will legally let me do. WTF.

Mostly corporations and elites. This "democracy" is really a oligharchic plutocracy, A country run by big business and the elites whom control big business. What is really sad are the wannabees, the little people with big dreams that see themselve as being someday part of the elites, which BTW will never happen. A little person may become "rich", but they will never be wealthy. The wannabees allow the people in control to remain there by voting in their favor. You ask most Republicans and they will tell you, "this country allows anyone to become rich by their own ambition" I call bullshit. It is very few that achieve monetary independence and 99% of those had major help from their families. They may call me bitter, I'm not. I just see things with clear insight.

The feds sue Arizona for trying to enforce federal laws, The Feds threaten to sue California for NOT enforcing federal laws (if prop 19 passes) lol what a fucking joke our government has become. Basically what these officials are sayin is the peoples voice is entirely irrelevant.
