hahaha nice. everyone brace for epic rightwing butthurt.

honestly though, i dont see what he did which warranted this award.
the act of not being a neoconservative warmongering fascist cocksucker
hardly warrants an applause, let alone the nobel peace prize.

You people are pathetic. Let the man have his day in the sun, for fuck's sake.

The Nobel Peace Prize IS, and always has been, a left-wing, hippie, feel-good fest.

Here's a list of winners in the past 20 years (I'm sure there's noone on the list you righties would consider "important", anyway)

— 2009: U.S. President Barack Obama
— 2008: Martti Ahtisaari
— 2007: Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, Al Gore
— 2006: Muhammad Yunus, Grameen Bank
— 2005: International Atomic Energy Agency, Mohamed ElBaradei
— 2004: Wangari Maathai
— 2003: Shirin Ebadi
— 2002: Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter
— 2001: United Nations, Kofi Annan
— 2000: Kim Dae-jung
— 1999: Medecins Sans Frontieres
— 1998: John Hume, David Trimble
— 1997: International Campaign to Ban Landmines, Jody Williams
— 1996: Carlos Filipe Ximenes Belo, Jose Ramos-Horta
— 1995: Joseph Rotblat, Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs
— 1994: Yasser Arafat, Shimon Peres, Yitzhak Rabin
— 1993: Nelson Mandela, F.W. de Klerk
— 1992: Rigoberta Menchu Tum
— 1991: Aung San Suu Kyi
— 1990: Mikhail Gorbachev
— 1989: The 14th Dalai Lama
— 1988: U.N. Peacekeeping Forces
— 1987: Oscar Arias Sanchez
— 1986: Elie Wiesel
— 1985: International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War
— 1984: Desmond Tutu
— 1983: Lech Walesa
— 1982: Alva Myrdal, Alfonso Garcia Robles
— 1981: Office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees
— 1980: Adolfo Perez Esquivel

See? Nobody important, just a bunch of foreign-sounding names (probably all camel jockeys, right?). Move along. Nothing for you righties here. NO warmongers, no bloodthirsty ex-Presidents from Texas. Just a bunch of people who wanted to make the world a better place (gag).

So please humor me, tell me why you think Obama won such an honor.
BTW, you are seriously saying that if I dont agree with this, than I am too stupid (or shall I spell it stoopid to lend credit to your post) to understand who these people are and their place in the world? Extremely insulting, considering that you know virtually nothing about me. Toss out the "you're just a righty". Why can't people drop the fukin labels for christs sake, and have an honest debate about anything nowdays. I guess im supposed to call you a lefty and exit like a coward? No thanks, I'm not a fan of labels, and I don't know a thing about you. Real clever tactic, trying to bait me into a political party war.

I don't think Obama is a bad man, at least not an asshole like bush, but WTF????

The Nobel prize for PEACE is being awarded to a president of a country who is currently fighting TWO wars????

Right, kissinger got one too, still that bar is really set low.

This is quite amusing...intentions seem to matter as much as actual accomplishments.
Curiouser and curiouser.

Comment: absurd decision on Obama makes a mockery of the Nobel peace prize

The award of this year’s Nobel peace prize to President Obama will be met with widespread incredulity, consternation in many capitals and probably deep embarrassment by the President himself.

For labels, I'm more center than anything. Both sides have good and really freaking bad ideas! That being said....

Overall I think Obama isn't a bad leader, he's got some pretty big ideas and is trying to see them through and few of them really have had time to succeed or fail. However, I was listening to POTUS today on XM (awesome channel, if you like both sides more than just listening to America Left or America Right, this is your channel on XM) and something interesting was said from one of the NPP committee. This prize wasn't awarded as much on what he's accomplished but an incentive (for lack of a better word) to accomplish what he set out to do.

And to me, that is a good example of one of the things wrong with the world today. You see it a lot here in the US these days but its also around Europe and many other places. Rewarding people for what they can or want to do instead of rewarding them for what they did. What is the incentive to complete if you get rewarded for something your going to do? Not that the nobel peace prize is the only goal out there, but it still seems to me rewarding him for things he *might* complete goes against what the NPP stands for.

That list above, most if not all of them had reached the majority or all of their goals. They worked extremely hard to achieve their ends. The ones that didn't reach their goals still worked their asses off to get as far as they did.

Well, except for a few, Jimmy Carter being a good example of someone who in my opinion shouldn't have received or should have forfeited the NPP.

Actually, in my opinion, the NPP has gone down hill since around 2001 with very few truly deserving winners since.

Certain aspects of the Nobel prizes have merit, but usually only in the sciences.

Obama has done absolutely NOTHING for world peace.

Appearances are just as valid as results in the political arena.

The only real lasting peace recognized by the Nobel committee was between Egypt and Israel.

All the rest fell apart ... but hey... they got their prize!!!!

what other prez has had plates, bubble head dolls ect ect ect. every time this man turns around he's getting something for doing nothing. so yes who's in the wrong here?

Actually as bad as Carter was as a president, he did do some good things after his term.

Because being against this makes me a republican? With ignorance like this running rampant, we as a country have no chance!
there was a time when Americans would have been proud that there President won the Nobel. I know because I am old.

So yea, I'd bet my ass your a Republican.

Carter was naive. He still is. Every now and again, the USA pulls a president out of thin air and hopes for the best. Then after all the carnage of mistakes, we say never again..... until a few generations pass by, and then we go ahead and make the mistake all over.

Although I have been deliberately avoiding the Politics section lately, I feel I must comment on this topic.

Recipients of a Nobel Prize have accomplished something in order to get nominated. Nomination comes after the accomplishment. What has Obama done besides talk real purty? Apparently, getting himself elected was the pinnacle of his career and the world community acknowledges this. The selection of Obama for the Nobel Peace Prize is the epitath on his political headstone.

In short: World to Obama - "You're done."
