Been putting some thoughts into Octopots, there are a couple guys using them in local facebook grow groups that seem to be getting good results. Who all has grown with octopots on here, and what did you think?

4 of the 6gal would be a good fit in my 4x4.

I say why pay a premium for something over complicated. Just build yourselves an RDWC system using BLACK 5gals, 4gal sq Pails, 17gal totes, or whatever you want. Whole thing runs on one single water pump

I use octopots. I’ve been growing for many years. I’ve grown every way you can think of. Octopots are my favorite hands down. I have a 4x4 tent and I can fill the entire tent with 1 plant. Yields are massive, super simple to grow in. It’s old technology updated. Very clever and effective design. I suggest you give them a try. Just get one and try it out. You’ll shit your pants at the results.

Rdwc is different than octopots. There are no pumps, no electricity. You never have to worry about electricity going out and killing all your plants. Super simple to grow in. I did rdwc for years. After my first grow with an octopot I sold my set up and haven’t looked back.

This is nothing new at all. You are just setiing a fiber pot in a tub of water. People have been doing that with peat pots for decades. This is not hydro or aero just wicking. Wrong forum group. I would have to see a side by side comparison to just regular watering to be convinced that this is better. Anyone can fill up a tent with one plant. Anyone can grow one plant in a fiber pot that will fill up an entire room, given the right genetics, light, and time. IMHO that is not the point at all, how fast can you get great flowers and start over again it my goal.

They aren't much different than a SIP pot with a net cup of soil on the bottom as the wick. Advantage of an Octo is the fabric pot.
I running a plant in a SWICK that is doing great. Sucking up about a quart of water a day from the bottom. Dry on top, no gnats.
My fabric pot sits on top of this plant riser from a old SIP pot with a piece of an old bag acting like a wick. Same principle as a SWICK minus the perlite.
Bottom watering is bottom watering to me.

I use DIY SIP's for my outdoor plants mostly bc I'm lazy and they are quite easy to build and maintain. I grow tomatoes, cucumbers, and watermelon and also have an herb garden in a store bought SIP (home depot) where I have some mint, basil, and cilantro growing. That said, I choose traditional hydroponic methods for my indoor adult plants bc with them, I am not lazy and I actually prefer to interact with them more regularly. Plus it's my comfort zone and I don't want dirt (bugs) in the house.
What am I saying? Sure an Octopot looks like another alternative in the "you can't mess this up" equipment department. It would also be easy enough to DIY.

I am looking at using these I veg in a 4x4 but flower in a 4x8 would like to keep 4 plants how big is the base should I get 3 gal or 6 gal

Some use the 3gal in veg and 6gal in flower.
The only difference is the size of the base.
They simply move the plant from 3gal base to 6gal base.
I'm just starting my first run with Octopots.

I do something like an octopot but DIY I use a 7gal bucket and fill the bottom 4-5” with a mix of vermiculite/perlite and drill a 1/4” hole on side of bucket just below the level of the mix level then slide a 1/2” piece of pvc pipe down to the bottom with a slight angle cut on bottom of pipe so it doesn’t sit flat on bottom of bucket and the pipe only needs to be long enough to be above the top of the bucket then fill the rest of the bucket with soil and plant your plant then top water for about a week till roots hit the bottom mix and at that point just water through the pvc pipe till it runs out the 1/4 hole super simple. The vermiculite/perlite make a res of water at bottom of the bucket so the plants always have water to drink. Could also take one bucket and drill the bottom full of holes then slide it inside of another bucket half full of vermiculite/perlite to make a much bigger res. There is so many way to make these octopots into a DIY system

first run with the 3 gallon octo's and so far WOW. I've been growing for 25 years and have done every kind of grow and these are by far the easiest. I'm running 100% organic water only soil from buildasoil.com and it's killing it. I didn't plant my seeds directly into the octo's as they had not arrived yet. I started my seeds in solo cups and they are about 10 to 12 days in the cups when I transplanted into the octo's. it worked out perfect as they were just starting to show roots at bottom of the cup. I just flipped to flower sunday.
