Odd growth on stem, under the dirt? Photo attached.

I have never seen anything like this before. I was loosening the dirt on a plant and found this walnut-sized growth on the stem under the dirt. It's really hard. I was jabbing it with a chopstick. Any insight?

lol wtf.... never seen that before,

sure the roots will create nodes, of odd shapes and sizes, but nothing like that.

its not a truffle is it?

That would be awesome. The truffle could be worth more than the plant. I'm perplexed on what it is. The plant is almost ready to flush, the plant looks extremely healthy and nice girth. I been doing this a few years now, this is new to me.

I have had them pop up on me here and there in the past few years of my growing experiences. I wanna say its like a sack of built up matter of the root system, hope that makes some kind of sense. I always cover it up and roots eventually will start growing off/out of it.

Some times bacterial infections cause weird tumor like growths. Maybe this is an example. They make tobacco pipes out of hundred year old briar wood that comes from the root system of the heather that has bacterial infections.

Most likely it is "scar" tissue where an injury healed and a callous formed. If you want to kill it keep jabbing it. Otherwise I wouldn't worry about it.

Probably comparable to a burl.

Actually did some research. It's called "Adventitious Roots". It can be common when using Rooting Hormone. Also is possible from seed but rarer (this case is from seed).
