Odor Scrubber Setup

Alright, I had a question regarding what size fan and filter I should go with. My tent is 3' x 3' x 6'11, I'll be growing, at most, 6 plants.

The reflector I have is air cooled. It accommodates an 8 inch inline fan. So I'll have ducting that is dedicated to just pushing air over the reflector to keep it cool and venting.

Separate from this I will have a fan and carbon filter setup for exhaust and odor control. For that setup, would going with a 4 inch or 6 inch fan be acceptable? The vent sock in my tent is adjustable to fit just about any size that is under 10 inches.

Bigger is always better!

I'd go for a 6".

My tent is 4x4x6'11 and I'm using air cooled hood too, so here's a good setup I decided to do!
I went with the 6" high velocity fan (424 CFM) and a GrowBright medium sized carbon filter and the final product couldn't make me happier in terms of effectiveness. I will tell u the filter an fan were way bigger than I anticipated but no smell and noise is minimal.
Here's the final product to give you an idea of how I rigged it. I did have to cut a piece of ducting because the flange on the other side of the fan was only 9 inches from the port. No leaks !

@itchyB hey bro love the setup I got a quick question. How did you hang your fan? It looks like it's inside the tent. I have an 8inch 735 hurricane...I just hung phresh 750 filter so I'm trying to figure if I should do filter<ducting<fan<ducting....or just go straight with filter<fan<ducting<window.....what do u think?thnx

The fan setup was easy this brand of high velocity fans (GrowBright) comes with an attachable bracket that you screw into the fan that hooks to any top bar of the tent. For me it wasn't perfectly secured so I took a ziptie thing and tied around the hole in center of bracket and that gave some extra support.

Since yours is separate from the hood, and if you were able to secure a fan on the top bar somehow like I did (because they're quite heavy), I'd go filter-ducting-fan-ducting out (this option is convenient if there's not enough space to directly connect a fan and filter)
If you have sufficient space to go filter-fan-ducting out, then that works too

@itchyB yea bro thanks for the advice. the hurricane inline fan from growers house came with an attachable bracket but it doesn't screw in securely i mean its all the way in but it still feels loose and i dont want to hang it and it falls. so im thinking of using reversible velcro for the bottom and then zipties through the holes on the bracket around the bar frame of the tent. its a gorilla grow so it should hold that weight no problem....i know this prob sounds stupid and i think i know the answer but oh well gotta ask......lol do i attach the fan or duct (whichever method i choose as we discussed) to the part of carbon filter that has the hole in it meaning the hollow entry part?? or do i attach it to the closed side of the filter? my guess is the open side but i have to ask anyway....and yea i do have plenty of room for the straight filter<fan<duct< window set up i think that might be simplest and smartest plus itll reduce amount of space clean air travels..lemme know what u think homey thnx

Yep you connect the hollow side to ducting/fan. The fan pulls air through all those little holes on the perimeter of the filter, which is why the other end is capped off. And hey man my bracket was exactly the same thing. I've concluded that the reason it feels loose after screws are in is because that bracket is "supposed" to be mounted to a hard surface, which is useless in a tent. But the bracket does hold for sure. Put a zip tie through that center bracket hole, wrap around top bar and lock and it will add more support. it works great for me. U can also use pretty much anything that will tie around the bottom of the fan to the top bar as well

I also found that my 6" fan (424cfm) pulls pretty fast and I think it pulls too fast, which causes some exhaust to still have a lil stink. So I ended up buying a 20$ connector that plugs into my outlet. the fan plugs in to that connector and I can now completely control the strength of my fan with a knob

@itchyB oh yea I already was kicking myself for not getting the controller but I'm going to order that soon.....thanx for the advice I figured it came that way so just go with it glad to see I'm not all the way stupid lol I figure ill hang it upside down connect it to to filter and just put zip ties through and wrap around with Velcro for extra support. Is there anything I should look for as far as ducting and clamps have clamps that came with special ducting but I heard duct tape will be needed to lock it up good....

I think the clamps do 99% of the job when nicely tightened , I used reflective-looking tape around some of the clamped parts that may have needed a little touch up. Couldn't tell u what the tapes called i asked a friend to grab me some different reflective tapes from his job. There's manny diff kinds but I either used that or electrical tape cause electrical tape can be stretched and make the seal extremely tight
