Off topic - let's live dangerously today. What do you prefer for your coffee/ caffeine fix?

The darker the roast the less caffeine content.
I drink a 20ish oz pot of black single origin (usually Ethiopian Sidamo or Yirgachef) made in a Chemex (a pour over coffee pot) I grind it in a Baratza Virtuoso. It’s my morning ritual and helps me get ready for my day. At work we have Fetco brewers brewing a decent La Columbe blend. I also do the rockstar 300mg sour apple drinks.
I've heard that about the dark roast coffee in the past. I think my palette prefers the dark roast from a flavor perspective. Medium roasts just don't have any flavor. At least the ones I've tried, and I'm by no means a connoisseur of coffee. I just like it to taste decent (folgers or better), and give me a kick in the ass to start my day. Here is how I started brewing my coffee a couple years ago. I got tired of the shitty drip coffee makers in their performance and maintenance needs. I wound up moving to a goose neck steel tea pot to boil my water in. I add my coffee. Stir. Depending on how strong I want it I let it steep for different amounts of time. Usually 1 minute. Bad days when I want it strong 5 minutes. I don't brew in the pour over cone. It just clogs the pores of the filter obscenely fast. Then I gotta take the fucker downstairs with a pair of metal tongs, fire up the blow torch, and burn it the fuck off. While it is fun it's not what I want to be doing with my time at 6:30 in the morning half awake in desperate need of my caffeine fix :) That's why I started brewing in the tea pot. No more coffee filters. Then I pour the goose neck brewed coffee through the hand held strainer and into my Brewology pour over coffee filter sitting on top of my coffee mug. Best cup of coffee around. Strong too if I do the 5 minute steep. Drink that shit with a spoon :)

Those Rockstar drinks are no joke. I think the ones I use to drink when I was doing cable installation were 220MG. I drank 2 one morning at the gas station on my way out to start my route. The caffeine just hit me hard. I felt like Mike Tyson was squeezing my stomach. I opened the door and puked 32 ounces of Rockstar and god knows how much coffee allover the gas pump I was parked at. It was just projectile dude. I think about that day and that moment every time I am reminded of those energy drinks. The horror. The horror... :)

If you boil your coffee you will bring out extra bitterness and mute a lot of the more subtle flavors, just below boiling 200 degreesish works best in my experience. I’ve got a similar gooseneck. If you like your coffee that way try a percolator, I’m not a fan of the flavor but it sounds like you would be. I’m not a coffee snob I’ll drink anything and be happy to have coffee, but I am a control freak with my brew.

ps. I think a light-medium roast brings out more fruit and tea flavors in most coffees, the dark roast has more chocolate and nut flavors and a thinner body in my experience. It’s like weed, you better flavors from better genetics and growing practices.

My usual routine is to boil the water to rolling then turn off the burner and remove from the hot grill. Add coffee. Steep according to what kind of mood I'm in. No boil with the coffee though. That's hardcore man :) I once worked at a car dealership. These people took their caffeine intake seriously. They had one of those commercial machines. The office girl would fill the hopper up to the top and run it through. Take that pot of coffee, fill the hopper again, and run the coffee through that was just made instead of water. It's the most awful thing I've ever seen anyone do with coffee in a work place.

I realize this is off topic. I've already asked the wife to beat me with a rubber hose this afternoon as my penance :) However, I'm very interested to know what other people do for their daily energy fix. Getting through the day is harder the older I get, and getting through the garden work on a really hard day isn't easy. Since the pandemic began in April I've been abusing expresso drinks routinely. I started with starbucks doubleshot. They're expensive and don't have enough kick. Lately I've been jamming on the $1 monster triple expressos and a big mug of strong dark roast coffee. My routine is 32 oz mug filled 3/4 up with 1/8C coffee in a pour over filter right into my mug. Then I smash 2 triple expresso monsters. 3 hours later I smash another monster. On a really bad no good terrible day I will have a 4th monster around 3. I'm actually shopping around for a nespresso to give it a try. I'm tired of sending the wife on missions to the local dollar trees cleaning them out on all their $1 monster expressos, and need a something more convenient moving forward. Hopefully somebody will have a great idea that I can implement in my own daily routine. I think I'm getting immune to the effects of monster expresso :)
Why the hell is this in the Hydro section?

Ah that makes more sense. As far as the dealership double brew... it sounds interesting as an experiment, but if someone was doing that regularly I’d think there was something off about them.

Maintaining a garden is a lot of work. Coffee / caffeine and work naturally go hand in hand. It's interesting to see how different people get their fix. Take a deep breath. Exhale. And relax my friend. If you were close by I'd let you try some of my sweet new hash caps to help you chillax ;)

Mountain dew and sugar free Monster 50/50. Although just an addiction after a few weeks. Drink straight black coffee to go to sleep. LOL.

Get more exercise. More energy and no bad side effects. Peace and health.

Thanks Dad

Last time I did coke ( over 15 years ago) I smoked a pack of cigarettes in about an hour.
I don't do coke often but when I was younger I could get the really pure good stuff and you did a thin little line and you couldn't feel your face after a few minutes. Nowdays it's hardly worth it to me, just makes me feel straight. If I have a good buzz going and I do coke it's gone lol.

Been a minute since I've seen it, but yeah, completely stepped on from what i hear. Sooo expensive up here in the Northeast too, like 100 a g. For bunk. Stupid.
Best gear I ever had was out west late 90's, faintly yellow with a slight wet looking sheen to it. Reminds me of how bad my buddy used to get crazy jaw. Could barely spit out a sentence by 4am lol.

I used to have a connect for the peruvian pink stuff back in the late 80's and for several years that was on lock. but yeah the good shit is hard to find, I hear it's already stepped on before it even comes into the country now.

Be careful with the energy drinks they have more than just caffeine in them. Your best bet is getting some high caffeine coffee and brewing that up with a bit of sugar and creamer. The energy drinks are going to cause you health problems when used more than a few drinks a week.

I'm like clockwork every morning.

Rise at 5am, coffee, codeine and cannabis in that order.

By 6am I'm ready to face the world.
