...might have found one...

infact, according to this article these new leds shit all over everything now. I think i will still need the cmh's to provide a bit of heat!
what are all of your professional oppinions about the specs on these new leds? The writter of the article seems to suggest they have now superceeded everything else, i'm not very good with technical/scientific stuff, would appreciate some evaluations... Cheers

i plan on running 2 400 watt philips ceramic metal halides in a 5x5 an d 2.5 ft deep closet in two aero tubs but i am still skeptical i plan on doing it as an experiment

alright quiet people..i am going to buy the supercloset deluxe 3.0 dimensions are 6' t 3' w 2' d but i wont be using the 400w hps that comes with it.not that inefficient thing.oh no im thinking of putting in 4 75w cmh bulbs for flowering/or i might just use 2 150w cmh bulbs you dnt need alot of power to grow your own buds..unless you smoke alot of weed like more than a ounce a week.and if you got jobs you probably smoke a bowl or 2 after work and about a half ounce at the most on the weekends with friends and family..if you see most of the guys growing with cfl low wattage bulbs strung 2gether given better light distribution 150w 250w and getting damn good results.it all depends on how much space you have and how much bud you smoke.think about it.you got a 400w cmh but you only smoke a half ounce a week.that light can easily give you up to a half pound or more under the right conditions nutes/light/dist/temp/humidity/strains/soil/ph.just knw what you plan to do with your bud before you start growing it.remember too much of anything isnt always good.oh and yes cmh bulbs are the shit think about it. it literally is the closest light to natural sunlight they are far more efficient they throw heat up more than down like hps and mh.they can veg better than mh..they make buds produce more naturally.hps does make them swell a little bit more.i believe this is due to hps being a little bit more red and or all indoor plants we grow have been breed for years under nothing but hps lights and never see a full spectrum this is why i think alot of plants wont do well under full spectrum..dont believe me?b4 u go do research on what i said know this..when you go to a seed website you have outdoor strains and indoor strains.trust me even most outdoor strains can and have been grown indoors if you know how to tame the plant.but the main point is majority of the weed we know and grow has been breed under these two lights mh and hps.led i know they will be better than all of the above once the distance from the plant can be reduce and when we get a 300w led to replace a 1000w hps commercially..so to rap this up cmh= better quality full spectrum more crystals and a little less quanity.hps quanity less quality just 1 sided on the spectrum chart.the best weed is grown from full spectrum blues and red in professional grow rooms ever see a mh in hps grow room hes tryn to produce more crystals mh doesnt make plants bud very well but they help plants trichomes in bloom stage.plants require diff spectrum throughout their life cycle...cmh all day..so help me out guys 4 75w cmh bulbs or 2 150w cmh bulbs?75 doesnt have that much power but ill get better coverage overall less shade i wont grow my plants stupid tall then flower.the smaller the better.buds a be big as hell being so close to the light source.but if the plants do strech and i know they will 75w isnt alot of penatration power.but the 2 150w cmh would be def more powerful way bigger buds la little less light coverage but not much hell it is brighter but not as close to the plants mayb a few inches off..what do u guys think?

Using HPS and only HPS was a growing error from day one. But that is what CMH is compared to, a growing error, and not against using MH for the vegetative growth stage and HPS during the flowering growth stage.

It's pretty easy to make something look good when you compare it to an error and with it being a broad wavelength/spectrum bulb it naturally should outperform using only a HPS from seedling to harvest, even though much of the wavelength/spectrum it puts off is almost a virtual waste, largely wavelength/spectrum that plants either hardly use at all or do not use at all.

But that does not mean a CMH would outperform using a high quality proper wavelength/spectrum MH for the vegetative growth stage and then using a high quality proper wavelength/spectrum HPS for the flowering growth stage.

The way CMH is advertised, and pushed by those who sell it, is like comparing two professional sports teams, but for one of those teams you give all the stats and information on and for the other you only give half the stats and information on it.

IF CMH was as kick-ass as it allegedly is they would be compared to the use of the highest quality proper wavelength/spectrum MH for the vegetative growth stage and then using the highest quality proper wavelength/spectrum HPS for the flowering growth stage, and then compare both CMH and MH and then HPS wavelength/spectrum absorption rates for Chlorophyll A and Chlorophyll B and the various pigments during the different stages of growth. But that is not the comparison that is made, is it?

Doesn't that make anyone else wonder and want to ask, why?
this is all true ...but....they compare to hps as they are trying to retrofit warehouses, they dont use mh in those spaces...and they dont compare fluro "cause there aint no comparison".....also it wouldnt be hard to find mh spectrum and do the comparison yourselves...???????...clarity is easy!

I've got a question? Why is it that they only make the CMH bulbs up to 400w and does anyone know of plans to make larger wattage ones?

Also, here's the chart on a Hortilux Dual Arc bulb. I can run this on a 1000w digital ballast. Is the CMH that much better than this?.

..just a thought on that first question, most warehouse lighting is 400 watt hps, thats what they are competing with ..hence the max 400 thing, if infact that catches on ,and if the chinese jump in they will most likely produce a 1000 watter..if they dont it will be no time before the Asians produce them....jmho

Hello everyone, been gone for a while anyone miss me.....do I hear crickets, lol, anyways, so whats up with everyone's CMH grows??? I imagined after being gone this long I would see some awesome stuff here, is CMH still not catching on, WTF?? Practically everyone that's used it "CORRECTLY" say's its the shit. I know someone has some killer CMH grows going so PLEASE stop being stingy and SHARE!!!!

I have seen cmh bulbs run in digi ballasts but I think there lifespan is shortened and in not sure how safe it is
CMH bulbs can only run in digital ballasts that are specifically made for CMH, if you run a CMH bulb in a non CMH digital ballast you will destroy the bulb, last time I checked there was only a couple manufacturers producing digital ballast for CMH bulbs and they weren't cheap. If you don't have or want to buy a CMH digital ballast then your only choice is HPS magnetic ballasts, however you can use a switchable magnetic ballast for CMH if you set it to HPS, if its set to MH it will ruin the bulb.

OK, now lets see some 2012 CMH grows PEOPLE!!!!

Kind of sad after reading this thread. Was happy to find it as I have a 250w CMH that I just started using 3 weeks ago on my seedlings. I'd say them seem to be growing faster but who knows as you can convince yourself shit real easy! anyway the website where I got the bulb from has a great sale on the Phillips CMH for anyone wanting to try one. Can't go wrong they are only 45 dollars shipped to your door.

http://www.plantlightinghydroponics.com/sun-pulse-600w-10k-metal-halide-digital-grow-lamp-p-3692.html Anyone heard of this?! Its a 10000K CMH lamp for 600 watts. Says it has added UV light and extra red in it. Supposed to be for final ripening but I don't see why it couldn't be used full cycle?
That's a Pulse Start Metal Halide not CMH, however from what Ive heard its one of the best MH bulbs, most people use them for the last 1-2 weeks of flowering to increase density and resin production, Ive also heard of people using them either by them selves or with HPS for the entire grow, each method will produce different results so I guess it comes down to personal preference. I believe CMH produces a better spectrum though.

here is a pic of a plant that spent the first 4 weeks of flower under a 400 watt cmh bulb. It was also vegged under the same bulb. Huge difference in trich production. Just put this girl under a 600 w hps to finish the flowering period.

That plant looks fantastic, excellent job, however why remove the 400W CMH???? I understand why you would want to use the 600W HPS but why not keep the 400W CMH on her also???? CMH + HPS FUCKING ROCKS!!! Ask anyone who has used them together & they will agree.

Thanks for the input Sativame! I moved it under the 600w hps because currently i only have 1 400w CMH bulb and I mainly used it in the veg room. I'll be getting another one shortly to throw in the flower room. It was my 1st time experimenting with the cmh bulb in flower phase. Happy Growing
