What do these words basically reference? I’m new to growing and smoked garbage my whole life until I started growing regularly
OG, KUSH, HAZE? What?

The other day someone was telling me they had some OG Kush Haze and I figured the name sounded made up. In fact, I think they DID make it up, but nevertheless...

Anyone can cross anything with anything, combine the names, and call it that. In fact a majority of the overpriceds seeds people are buying are just that. Some dude crossing one strain with another. People think they're buying some stable strain that has been bred properly. Most are not.

as he said cos so many breeders now use words like kush or haze when theres no significance or is it even relevant to the plants parental genetics these days names are to sell more than anything

I always chuckle a little bit when I see the words pheno hunting , I mean I totally understand looking for a particular genetic disposition but like you said if it’s stable to be honest we shouldn’t have to hunt

I understand the fact that most things have been crisscross back crossed but I was curious as to the origin of those words and what they met back in the day

Well when it meant something
Kushes were from afghan pakistan parts of india etc hazes originally were a mixture of equatorial sativas
However a word of warning many landraces are bio diverse in as much as you can get a sativa or indica pheno from the same strain mazar i Sharif from afghan chitrali from pakistan and lebanese from bekaa valley all true versions of these will show both phenos so it kinda makes you wonder about our preconceptions of indica and sativa

I was just pointing out that the words seem to be thrown around pretty easily these days. I'm not sure how much they really mean with regard to modern cannabis hybrids, or once "pollen chucking" is considered. I have no idea about the actual variety named "OG kush Haze".

I've grown OG Kush (sensible seeds) and of the five phenos the seeds had, only one of them seemed to have any real kush in my opinion... The others were much more on the sativa side both in growth and effects... I think back in the day kush could also just mean "good weed"

It really gets under my skin when people say words like "kush" to refer to good weed in a generic way lol

Some growers like to put the name of the mother plant then the name of the "father", so maybe an OG Kush mother and a Haze "father"?
