OgSwisher's 2012 Outdoor College Grow

Hello RIU! This is my first serious grow! Past grows have been nothing more than stick a seed in the ground and watch her grow... BUT THAT WAS THEN... AND THIS IS NOW....

Whole idea behind this grow was to be able grow bud for myself and not to spend a ton of money doing it. I am a college student so money is a little tight but I refused to cut corners on soil and nutes. (My boys brother inlaw owns a Hydro Store)
Here is the set up....

Fox Farm Ocean Forest mixed with 20-30 % perlite

Three Blue Dream Clones....

Three Five Gallon Buckets...


I built a structure to keep them safe from extreme heat/pest. The structures stats are 4ft wide by 6ft tall and long surrounded by Green Mesh the entire set up pvc+clones+soil+supplys was 140$$$

One of my baby girls top leafs are curling any idea what this could be? here is a pic.....

Too much nutrients. Flush with nothing but water, and stop feeding nutrients for a day or two.

I have not given them any nutes.... any other ideas? could it be the soil?

I see there is another leaf besides that one. It could be an underlying situation from the mother, or from during the cloning process. My experience is to just let her do her thing. And keep a good eye. Lots of times its just stress. Moisture and heat stress can cause curling. But I think they look alright.

Fox Farm Ocean Forest can be too "hot" (AKA too much nutrients in the soild u bought) for small clones and seedlings, thats why the leaves are curling like that.

That breaks my heart because before I bought Fox Farms I asked people on this site and that is what they recommended sighs* rolls joint.

You should have let the plants grow at least 4 weeks before transplanting in nuted soil....sorry they didn't tell you that. you could transplant it now into some Kellogg's Patio Plus

Or just leave it because FFOF isn't that hot, I start seedlings in it without any perlite added.

Whats the point in stressing them more with a transplant?

What are you smoking? Most plants under 4 weeks old will get burnt up by ffof in a heartbeat.... It will take the plants a week or two to bounce back so the growth will be stunted mos def.....

I have never had a problem with OF being too hot. I start all my seeds in it. I just feed plain water for first 3-4 weeks.

FoxFarm is a triumph in marketing. Next time, just get some Promix or equivalent and either amend it with organics (worm castings, guanos, etc.) or use chemicals. Either way works great. In both cases you will know exactly what is in your soil. You will never know what is in any FoxFarm product, quantity-wise.

I've rooted several clones in Ocean Forest with no issues. If you just transplanted those it is most likely transplant shock. Remember Cannabis is a weed and try not to freak out too much. You shouldn't have to add nutrients for 20-30 days though.

You've got a bit of a late start on the season as most people are already deep into flowering. What is the weather like in your area? Are they going to be able to finish in 10-12 weeks? Just some food for thought. You should be able to get an ounce or more per plant if it goes well. Good luck

Every strain is different, some strains can't handle the amount of food FFOF has in it at such a young and fragile age, and some plants excel in it.

That's the thing about growing you have to figure out what works in your situation.

I no longer use fox farm, and im smoking NL#5. Im about 1/2 couchlocked and its only 1230. Pro mix/Subs super soil is all I use now, and I've put very young plants in supersoil, I've also used 100% super soil instead of mixing it with some regular potting soil and had very minor burn issues. I guess it all depends on the strain. Still, FFOF is not really that hot. The clones are shocked from transplant

Out here grow season starts around september/october and goes threw may/june I built a little sun screen tent I will update with pics tomorrow been super busy with school and work 12 credit hours and 35+ hours a week at my job. Just started giving them Some Jacks. They seem to be thriving really well now in the sun they get taller almost everyday.... pics coming soon...
