hey guys ive recently moved to a new house. well knew to me the house itself is very old. i plan on starting a nice dwc grow in my basment. it has come to my attention that the basement is just as old as the house. (duh) and is covered in cobwebs, dust, dirt and god knows what else. the floor is dirt and the foundation is stone. i plan to section off the area im going to use with mylar and duct tape. i will be covering the walls and ceiling with this trying to make it as air tight as possible. im afraid that the old musty enviroment might affect my plants. any thoughts?:?

do you think the yeast and sugar in a bucket system would work better that just releasing c02 cartridges? its also alot cheaper.

I didnt mean a home made brew, I dont believe that theres enough there to kill an ant, sorry. If you keep your eyes out, you can come up with a deal on a tank. I got one, full for $13.00.

Honestly, I dont have all the fancy guages and expensive add-ons, just the tank and a valve, I open it, wait about 90 seconds and turn it off. It works, and best of all is....only thirteen bucks!

Refills are gonna kill me though, compared to the purcahse price, refills are about $25.00. LoL

Check with your local restaurant supply, or better yet, ask your local neighborhood tavern if they have an extra one.
Peace

Yo Fenix...

I've grown in a crawlspace/on a dirt floor for years w/ no problems.

The area is musty due to a lack of airflow. You will have to change this *anyway* to grow weed..so the smell will go away after you turn your fan/ventilation on and bring in some fresh air. You'll also have to filter the pot smells if you are successful in your endeavor in the basement or the entire house will smell.

Ditch the duct tape idea. It will disintegrate quickly the first time it is exposed to humidity. Instad..buy sme 2 x 3 studs or find real studs and build a room....then drywall it or stretch "panda" plastic on it. Cover all surfaces.... floor/walls/ceiling.

Ditch the Co2 idea too. Your time will be better spent reading and dialing in the other parameters (temp, humidity, light, ventilation, care) that will make MORE of a difference than any potion or application of "Co2" you can give em at present. The only way I'd say "go for it" is if you are prepared to buy a regulator and tank..or a generator and a controller to make it all work properly/intro the correct amount of CO2. (down the line, bro..down the line!)

focus on lighting, ventilation, and making the space light tight....those are key.

good luck

panda plastic = one side black other side white (reflective)
To rent a Co2 bottle from a welding supply shop shouldnt be much

I'm assuming that this isnt your 1st grow.
The beauty of your setup really is the lower temps with being in a basement means a longer time you can take advantage of co2. Once you hit 90 degrees, you gotta vent the room.

The problem is that you can't build a wall out of mylar. Most of it is somewhat transparent and at 1 and 2 ml..it just isn't strong enough.

The panda plastic seems expensive... but it will allow you to make multiple spaces/rooms easily and they will be light tight if you do it correctly. Most hydro stores will also sell you what you need off the roll if you ask nicely...

Building a new room is an exciting thing...huh?

good luck

how much is in that 90 dollar roll? and all i have to really do to finish the room is seal it up with something like this because the frame work is already there. and i can just fasten it to the rafters for a ceiling. how would you suggest fastening this? staples? for the c02 i have a few empty nitrous oxide bottle layin around i could probally use to just purge some c02 of every now and then. im a gearhead before a pothead.

building this is verrrrry exciting. all im thinking about is the better i build it the better that very first sweet hit is going to be:leaf:

i just got back from home depot and found some aluminum insualtion that looks like it would work very well...
Insulation 4 LESS
looks like it should do the trick, it insulates and it looks pretty reflective and on top of that itll make my room look like a space capsule! i just gotta figure out what i should do about the uneven dirt floor:? any suggestions? so far you guys have helped me a ton on new ideas!!:joint::joint:

Level it out throw a couple of pallets down. The roll is 100 feet long and 10' wide, so about 1000 feet. I made curtians, out of it to go between vegging room and flowering room, and stapled it over the wall insulation. Water proof the walls, stop mold from growing on the walls. You may want to reconsider in a musty old basement. VV
