Old seeds dead?

Hi guys,

I tried to germinate my 10-year-old seeds, and they don't germinate, any advice?

Note: I used the glass of water method (12 hours to moisturize), then put them all on a paper napkin moistened with filtered water in total darkness), it's been 5 days and nothing happens.

Is it possible that they all died while they were stored? They have been in a closet without moisture for more than 10 years.

Thanks.

I popped a 10yr old batch that wasnt stored in any special way. Out of the 12, 2 or 3 popped.
I think the slowest was two weeks in the dirt.

Thx Boatguy,

You have just fed my hope, it would be very unfortunate that all the seeds I have were dead because I have a very extensive collection.

Good luck with em.
If you dig around here, there are alot of suggestions on how to speed germination along with old seeds.
Some people lightly sand the seeds, but there are other ideas as well

Did they ever germinate?

I'm in a similar situation right now. I put 9 (ten-year-old) seeds in a very small glass of filtered water for ~32 hours and then moved to paper towel method between 2 plates in darkness. Day 6 now and only one has shown signs of life. Just the smallest sign of a taproot early on but seems to have given up. I'm worried my temps were too cold throughout the process. Or maybe i drowned them :(
