old seeds R they good

First let me say Aloha To all of you this is my first post. Ok so I have been on the water for the last few years so i had no where to grow. Now that Im back in the Islands and 100% legal again I wanted to grow. the thing is i have some old seeds from when i grew back in the mainland and some from friends here but they are a few years old. I have tried all the normal way to make them pop but they didn't. got any advice on what to do. oh And i ordered some new ones from the seed shop on here so I let you know if i get them i have got like four emails and im on step seven of there shipping thing so we will see. diid you ligthly scratch the shell with sand paper and soak in glass of water for 12 up to 24 hrs...
than in between moist paper towel till germ

thanks weezer- yup i tried that and every other thing i saw on here like soaking in black tea and putting on a heat pad. I have like 1000 seeds from over the years you would think a few would go right. who knows maybe its something im doing i checked ph and boiled all my seed starting stuff. thanks buddy im going to try the sand paper thing again.

Seeds should last for a number of years as long as they are kept nice and dry so they don't mold.

I just started some trying an experiment and it worked out great so far.

4 days ago I put 3 seeds in a pill bottle with some sand paper and shook them around.

I took the sand paper out of the bottle and filled it about 1/4 up with water and put in a few crumbs of Shultz rooting powder and a tiny bit of Superthrive. I put the bottle in a warm corner of my grow cabinet (lid off) and tossed a rag over it to keep the light out.

it took a little over 24 hours and the seeds had sank and cracked open just a little, tiny tap root showing. I went ahead and potted them about 1/2 inch deep in pre-moistened soil. They are in the cabinet with a light directly above them

Yesterday one of them had already popped up about the soil.

today the other 2 have popped up. I'm 3 for 3 with this new method and they are already out of the ground.

I dont know man I tried about 20 old seeds in a wet paper towel and in about 3 days 4 popped out and I left the other 16 I left for 2 weeks never had anything so I threw them out

Maybe those seeds weren't mature.

do any of you think that hawaii has to do with it it these came from my indoor on the east coast? I have a lot of kinds some strains from the 80's like L-3 and cloud 9 also some killer NL from my first grow in 04. thats the oldest ones i have. lets hope i can get the ones from nirvana and they work just wish i could bring back the 80's strains.

errm sorry but did u just sed it is legal to grow in Hawaii or was that my bad English ???

Ya im a med grower and i can grow 7 of them with no worries. so i do 3 outside and 4 inside. the cool thing about hawaii is that we have 2 seasons and i get 2 outdoor grows and well inside is a veg/ clone room and a flowering room. just wish i could get the old seeds to crack.

again isn`t illegal to grow marijuana in usa and isnt it Hawaii state of usa, i`m very confused now

well yes it is Illegal to grow in the usa but if you live in a state that says you can grow for med then local cops wont do anything to you unless you break the rules ie, how meny you grow, selling it or smoking it in you car and well I only grow 7 and why sell it i have a job and shit i drive a motorcycle so im legit. but now we are getting off the subject. can you help me with the germinating thing im sanding seeds as i type. misshestermoffitt how much did you sand or how long did you shake yours for. and the rooting stuff was that for cloning or did shultz make it for germinating seeds? Mahalo all

well i don`t know much about this but why dont you try to open them with a razor, it worked for me

I just shook them around for a few seconds. Not long at all.

The rooting stuff I used is for cloning, (bought it at Walmart) but I like to experiment with new things were gardening is concerned. I'm new at growing weed, but have been growing lots of other things for 20+ years.

I just figured I'd try it for the hell of it and it seemed to work really well for me.

You can't be serious.

I've grown some hella old seeds.

i gave mine to my hamster and he opened em all, and also threw em under his waterbottle and germinated em whilst i got high

Wow.......Razor what a joke!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The funny thing is i have so much seeds i tried the razor thing if it works i will laugh i did like 3 and just slightly nicked the edge.

Well no tails yet but good news my cool new "pencils" from nirvana came today. I am glad i got them but the seeds where in a bag no writing on it or label. they look ok not to big and chunky. I odered the skunk 1 and some some kush I let you all know how it goes. Mahalo
