Does it have a pretty potent smell while drying? I like your set up a lot. Do you ever make butter or edibles? I think that's what I'm going to do with my popcorn buds this year, besides I don't know the first thing about dabs or whatever its called lol
I make all kinds of stuff!
The Popcorn is going to be BHO shatter, and the garbage bag of trim is going to be butter, tinctures, and cooking oil.
BHO is the beeeeeessssssssssst. All my popcorn is going to oil, no question. It's super easy to make oil, you just need patience.
I use a simple Honey Bee Extractor, got it at my local headshop. Grind up the bud, pack it super tight into the extractor tube and flush it with butane. You can fit about 30-40g into the honey bee extractor, and I use about ~300g of butane per oz of bud. Collect the flushed butane in a glass dish, and set the glass dish in hot water until most of the butane boils off (turns back into gas). Once most of the butane has been boiled off VIA the hot water, double boil the glass dish on the stove with the remaining butane solution in it @ 175 degrees Fahrenheit for about 30 mins. The oil will bubble furiously at first, but the bubbles will taper, and slow. Make sure you pop the bubbles with something, (dabber, safety pin, skewer, etc),
DO NOT WHIP THE OIL (this adds gasses to the mixture which is the opposite of what we're doing at the stage), pop the bubbles by voraciously sliding the skewer back and forth through the oil. It should make lines in the oil that should disappear as the oil gets re-heated while being double boiled. As the time passes you should notice the lines take longer and longer to melt back into a puddle of goo (the solution is thickening). You won't notice that the solution is 'hard' until removed from the heat.
Let the glass dish cool a bit, but you still want it warm, and use a razor blade to scrape up the remaining oil.
The most important thing is the double boiling process, as it's getting rid of any leftover butane in the oil. There are other methods that require a significant amount of specialized hardware that will also ensure a 'clean purge' of butane, but this is the most cost effective.
If you have 155g cans, I'd use 2.5 cans per tube of bud, and with the 300g cans I'd use one and a bit. If the liquid butane coming out of the end of the tube is still yellow, you're generally still good to go with putting more butane through the tube.
You just need;
Pyrex or Metal dish
Package of razor blades
Cans of Butane with no additives
Water
Stove
Extractor Tube
Bud
Grinder
Coffee Filters
Slim piece of metal (safety pin, bobby pin, stiff wire)
Afterthought; When you're scraping the oil out of the dish for collection, as mentioned it should still be warm and somewhat pliable. When scraping the oil up, get a generous amount on the razor blade but not enough to get it all over your fingers. Then set the razor blade down, and use a new one. Leave the oil on the razor blade and left it cool down, it will be much easier to get the oil off of the razor blade once it's cooled to room temperature. If you've purged your BHO correctly, it will turn quite hard once cooled; hard enough that you can pick it up and the BHO should feel like hard taffy, that can be squished if pressed hard enough.
Just a tip I thought I'd add for easy collection...
